I have been managing my finances quite poorly, but there is still hope.
Since I retired from the navy, I was left with no job lined up, car payment, apartment payment, my wife and my two boys. It took me some time to get my head out the water but i also accumulated some serious credit cards payment took keep me afloat for the moment. During that time, we also used our savings and my wife work was not enough to keep us going. The kids daycare fees were not helping either. This was in the recent recession period in the United States when it became quite hard to get a decent employment.
Following the debts and money issues, i got the idea of moving to Sweden for some time. My wife from there and it didn't take much time for her to secure a decent job. I started taking classes, working on my bachelor degree in engineering management. In the meantime I began to actively search for employment, and despite the language barrier, at last I found a job too.
The only debt we have now is my credit card payment; every month I put money on the side to pay it off, opened an account for my children, and still manage to save some on the side in our family account. I also have a part-time weekend job. The key now is to lower expenses and keep high revenues. Every month we try to compare the cost of all the things we purchased with the ressource we accumulated.
