How Basketball Has Affected My Life
I love basketball I mean… I love it, love it. When I play basketball I play with my heart even if I am hurting in my legs or arms it is so damn fun! I love the game because people assume that I was built for it because of my height. The best enjoyment I get from the game is when I block people and just to see their reactions and pump up the players or the watchers. That affects my mental well being because it boosts my confidence as I feel like i’m the king of the world. Sometimes my mental well being is affected negatively while playing basketball because I feel like an underdog in a game like the feeling where you see taller people who just stares down at you and think they gonna block me. So I try play swiftly when I lay the ball up to …show more content…

It was a great experience to stand next a New Zealander who has made it to the big league in a sport that I love. Going to this affected my social well being because I had made a friend that also comes from Hawke’s Bay. He was waiting for his friends but they had not shown up, so he hung out with me. It affected my social well being because I had made a friend and he was easy to connect with as we shared the same interests. It also affected my mental well being because it made me feel more comfortable at the camp because he made it more enjoyable and I did not feel out of place because I had someone to talk to. I did not mind him hanging out with me as he was a very good basketball player, he stood around about 6’4 tall which kinda intimidated me. This affected my mental well being because I thought he was better than me and I am a very competitive person. So that affected my physical well being because I had to be better than him so ran faster and be better at the drills. Another thing that affected by well being was when Steven Adams was defending us in the key and I saw my mate drive up to him and got blocked so I went up and scored on Steven. My spiritual well being was affected (big time) because I just had a boost of confidence and my adrenaline just skyrocketed to the moon. I was so excited that I scored on a NBA player because Steven Adams is very tall, he stands at about 7’0’. It affected

I was an eight year old kid when I had my first ever glimpse of the NBA Basketball. It was a lanky afro manchild doing a reverse dunk versus Indiana right in front of the Laker crowd. Crowd was in awe, Commentators were ecstatic and Kevin Harlan in his usual voice saying, Kobe can’t be denied. That day, my love affair with the Los Angeles Lakers started.…

For as long as I remember, I have been raised with a basketball hoop. This hoop stood firmly, looking down at the trees secured by patches of cement in my backyard, in my neighborhood, Dorchester. This hoop was my center of faith and tranquility surrounded by gunfires, shattering windows, car alarms. As a girl, I learned not to adventure any place else other than this hoop because going beyond its faded lines on the concrete is an unknown world full of hazards and danger. And when I did cross these seraphic lines, I could sense the bittersweet emotions running throughout the neighborhood, my home.…

Baseball may seem like a game where individuals remain around and sit tight for a ball to be hit, yet that is not what baseball truly is. To me, this game has changed the way I see life all in all. Each player has been taught to have great hard working attitude, regardless of whether it's in a weight room or even practices. Coaches have given leadership chances to players every year and this year it's my turn due to my hard working attitude and my capacity to lead a team. I didn't turn into the individual I am by simply sitting around. If not for baseball, I wouldn't have that additional push individuals need to succeed. Everything began off sophomore year during baseball season. It was about mid-path through…

One extremely important activity outside of the classroom that has helped me grow as an individual is Church League basketball at my local YMCA. From the outside looking in this league seems to be a form of glorified pick-up basketball with referees and a scoreboard but there is so much more to it. Almost half way through my junior year my father convinced me to try out for the varsity basketball team at school in November to which I hesitated at first but later gave in and tried out only to be cut. At first I was upset because I had never been cut from a team and I was unsure of how to handle it and what to do with my free time. This prompted me to reach out to God and ask him for a sense of direction and purpose in this time of my life to which He responded with a friend inviting me to Church League basketball. Once I experienced a few scrimmages and practices I decided to commit to playing Church League and coming to all of the…

It was winter season and that meant basketball. This year was special because I got to play for Davidson Day’s seventh and eight-grade team. See at our school the middles school ran through 5th to 8th. The middle school basketball teams were divided into a 5th-6th-grade team and a 7th 8th grade team. This season was different; we would play more games and different teams. Also we got a new coach and older teammates. Tryouts were rough; the older kids were picking on the 7th graders constantly. I was the only one they liked because I was good. The season got even worse. The 7th graders never played in the games and sometimes in the locker room older kids would yell at us for messing up. This was horrible to watch and be apart of.…

The game took place on a cold, November afternoon in Gatlinburg, Tennessee. It was the last game of the tournament and we, the CBS Falcons, faced the Red Dogs in the championship game. We were confident about our chances of victory; however, our confidence was quickly put to the test when we first saw the other team. This game taught me never again to judge a book by its cover and that effort can trump skill.…

The best part of my freshman basketball team was traveling to different location with my team. While we travel on the road, we would often sing, and dance on the bus. Coach Belford would often go over plays with the team before the games on the bus. We would look out the bus windows to look at the new environment. Me and a couple of my teammates would stretch on the bus before the games. My favorite thing to do on the bus, was to listen to music. Listening to music always hype me up before the game. It was like pregame ritual for every game I played. Sometimes we would go out to eat after the games as a team. When we win most of the time we would sing are school anthem. Think about it now my freshmen basketball road trip were the best trip I had during my high school…

The vibration of the basketball hitting the ground is the best feeling the world. Light was shining through the humongous windows onto the worn out gym floor like a flash light. I sat there, riding home from a football game finding myself spacing off thinking about basketball. basketball is starting soon and i cant help thinking about getting to play varsity. I miss the smell of the gym right before a basketball game and the feel of the basketball grooves. I actually kind of miss the bad tasting water from the school water fountain. One thing that I miss the most about basketball is the feeling of trying your hardest and succeeding at it.…

My life has revolved around soccer since I was four years old. My whole family was born into the sport and I’m so thankful that I have the support from my family and friends to continue to follow my dream in playing college soccer. I believe my life would not be the same without participating in the sport I love and playing with the people I grew up with. I wouldn’t have met half the people I know now. All my teammate’s families that treat me like their family would have been just imaginary. I wouldn’t have a second family to fall back on when I need. Soccer had made me for who I am. The reason I’m so competed and driven is because of the game. Soccer has helped me become a responsible hardworking young adult that doesn’t like to fail. My never-quit…

I used to be an all season sport player, but now I am only going to be a ¾ season sport player. I played all the sports that I could, football, basketball, and baseball. Now I only do football, basketball, and track. I like baseball, I’m just not good at it. Fielding, throwing, and catching I can do, I just can’t hit, and I don’t want to be the one to get out when I have enough power to drill it out to center field, and then see the disappointment on my teammates faces.…

Throughout high school, my life has been consumed by sports. Being a student athlete has made me become the person I am today. Ever since I was sixteen, I have also worked at a daycare in town, TASK. This has showed me how much little kids look up to student athletes. Working at TASK has also showed me how much these little kids want to grow up and be like us student athletes. Without sports and working at the daycare, I would not be the role model I am today. Since working at the daycare, I have realized I want to be the person little girls are talking about when they say, “I want to grow up and be just like her.” Being chosen team captain has made me into the leader I am. I have learned how to push my teammates…
