Every one has seen the infamous TV commercial with the young couple sitting in a park on a blanket, innocently sharing a Popsicle made out of High Fructose Corn Syrup. The female offers her male cohort a portion of the frozen treat, responding to his hesitance with the disreputable claim hosted by the corn industry, “sugar is sugar.” Ironic, this commercial enticing the general public to accept the ill-fated ingredient of High Fructose Corn Syrup, is the epitome of Eve offering Adam the apple in The Garden of Eden. High Fructose Corn Syrup has seemed to invade even the most discrete products in the current day kitchen. Hiding in ketchup, soups, and meats, to name only a few, this overused sweetener has wreaked havoc on the American people; much less the unfortunate, overweight, diseased, diabetic rats that fell victim to its studies. High fructose corn syrup (HFCS) is a man made, chemically altered, and potentially neurotoxic byproduct, largely at fault for our nation’s health epidemics of obesity diabetes and cardiac disease, but if eradicated from our diet the sequelae of its morbid effects could be alleviated.…

The body makes glucose by breaking down carbohydrates, proteins and fats. 15% of the American diet consists of added sugar. Sweetened beverages are the leading source of added sugar in the United States. There is a clear correlation between high sugar consumption and obesity and bad heart health. Lawmakers should impose restraints on the amount of sugar each person ingests. In the text Sugar Lobby to Aggressively Oppose World Health Organization's Diet Report the author states “Most people don't calculate numbers when drinking soft drinks or eating baked foods, such as cookies and cakes, which are laden with added sugars. She also warns that many low-fat foods are also high in sugar.” This can show us that if we do not have restraints on sugar know one will pay attention to how much they consume. An average person doesn’t know how much sugar is in each food or drink they have, which makes it hard for us to cut back on are own. In the article it says “Eating too much of these foods is storing up health problems for their future.” This shows that lawmakers should put a restraint on sugar because kids are a part of the problem and it is progressively affecting people who eat foods that contain a lot of sugar. Sugar can affect you when you are older or right away. This makes it hard for people to know if they are injected with too much sugar. If lawmakers make restraints then it is harder for people to get more then there body should get. Sugars can lead to 7 different concerning areas; cancer, cholesterol, diabetes, diet, hyper activity, obesity, and tooth decay. Therefore, since there is not one outcome to the effects of sugar it is harder to stop it without restraints. For example, if your hose has a leak you put a piece of duck tape on it and then it’s ok because it has no other things wrong with it. What if you had the same hose but with 5 holes instead of one? what if you only had that one…

High fructose corn syrup is a processed food product and far from being considered a naturally occurring substance. Studies have shown that increased consumption of HFCS is linked to liver scarring, not to mention the obesity epidemic in the United States. When tested, rats with access to HFCS gained significantly more weight than the rats that had table sugar. Both samples had the same amount of calorie intake. We can only assume that if humans were tested, the same effects would occur. A newer discovery has been verified through research. It was discovered that fructose has been the main reason for a molecular mechanism that forces uncontrolled growth of the heart muscle. This condition has also been proven to lead to complete heart failure and restricts the amount of oxygen needed in the heart. Other health concerns include type two diabetes, metabolic syndrome, and high triglyceride levels. HFCS is also an empty calorie, leading it to be less hunger satisfying. This causes people to consume more than they should, increasing the harmful effects that will eventually occur. All of these harmful effects can lead to bigger and more severe effects, including death. It is best to stay away from any sugar, but most importantly high fructose corn syrup, to improve your…

No matter what, humans need sugar in their daily diets. To be healthy your cells require sugar as a nutrient. “Our cell health is critical to overall health. If the cells are nourished we have the right foundation for a nourished body” (Konie Pg. 2B). For some reason when humans over consume a product such as sugar, we as a society automatically see it as bad and take no accountability for our own actions and or choices. On page 2A from the article “Is sugar bad? Why I say NO!” by Robin Konie we are reminded of the natural sugars that are essential to our daily diets, like sugars found in fruits, dairy, vegetables, and other essential foods we need to consume daily.…

And the increased levels LDL and other risk factors occurred in only weeks after the consumption of high-fructose corn syrup. This supports the claim that lawmakers should impose a restraint on the amount of sugar each person ingests because look at how people are treating themselves. Many people know how bad too much sugar is but nothing is really stopping them from going over the limit and increasing their chances of cancer or heart failure. Lewis Cantley, a Harvard professor, learned that eating or drinking sugar spikes our insulin. Insulin however cause harmful effects on several tissues, in a particular concern, cancer. ⅓ of cancer cells have this thing called insulin receptors which in particular take in glucose. Every single cell in our body needs glucose to survive but they can’t get it if the insulin receptors are sucking all the glucose to fuel to cancer cells. So people know why they are getting fat or receiving heart failure, they know how to lower the chances of getting cancer, now all they need to do is just lower their sugar consumption to…
