1. Assassination of the archduke Franz Ferdinand: (June 28, 1914) the archduke visited Sarajevo to audit the armed forces. While travelling through Sarajevo in an open car a Serbian nationalist threw a bomb at their car which ended up bouncing off the car and injuring an officer. The archduke later visited that officer at the hospital where he later took off again, unfortunately, the driver took a wrong turn. Gavrilo Princip (Serbian nationalist) spotted him and took a shot killing both him and his wife.
2. Austria-Hungary declares war on Serbia: (July 28, 1914) 1 month exactly after the assassination of the archduke Franz Ferdinand and his wife, Austria-Hungary declares war on Serbia officially starting W.W.1.

Germany and the Ottoman empire form a secret alliance: (August 1, 1914) this alliance was formed by the German empire and the Ottoman empire. This alliance was created so that Germany had a safe pass way to some British colonies.
4. Germany declares war on France: (August 3, 1914) Germany declaring war on France put the Schlieffen plan in motion. Essentially it was a plan to invade France by going through the neutral country of Belgium and capturing France in 6 weeks, the plan was also very reliant on Russia being slow at mobilizing her troops. The plan ended up failing as Belgium rebelled against the Germans, and Russia was faster than expected.
5. The United Kingdom declares war on Germany: (August 4, 1914) Belgium’s neutrality was ensured by Britain. Germany had broken this and Britain had given Germany one last demand to get out of Belgium by midnight of august 3. Germany did not listen, so on August 4, 1914, Great Britain declared war on Germany.
