Pip and Romeo go through many life changing events that end of shaping their future, to something they never wanted it to become. The tragic tale, Romeo and Juliet was written by the author William Shakespeare. The novel, Great Expectations was written by Charles Dickens. In the novel Great Expectations, Pip goes through his journey of growing up, and eventually becomes a gentleman after being apprenticed to Joe for several years. In the tragedy, Romeo and Juliet, Romeo goes through the experience of loving a girl, who is apart of the rival family, then tries to marry her to stop the violence but they both end up committing suicide in the end . The journeys that Pip and Romeo end up having to go through change their lives forever, mainly for the worse due to the many mistakes the made in their lives. In Great Expectations, Pip’s journey first started when his older sister, Mrs. Joe, began abusing him as a young child. In chapter 2 Pip comes home and is told by Mrs. Joe, “ .... I may truly say I've never had this apron of mine off since born you were. It's bad enough to be a blacksmith's wife (and him a Gargery) without being your mother."
