Simone Biles is a world class, gold medalist, gymnast. She was the one to beat at the 2016 Rio Olympics. Growing up, Biles was always playing catch-up in the sport. She started in a really unexpected way. There were many things in Simone Biles’ life that contributed to her success in gymnastics; from started gymnastics, leveling up and winning competitions, to going to the 2016 Olympics and winning gold.
The first point to Simone’s journey of success was when she first started gymnastics. Simone was a little girl when her life got switched around. Simone grew up with gymnastics ever since she went there on her field trip. She was in the gym often; before and after school, on weekends, all the time. Soon after, Simone learned to do the bars with …show more content…
“She has competed in three, winning a total of 14 medals, 10 of which are gold- the most ever in women's gymnastics history” (Warshaw). People had started to get her to think about going to the Olympics. She really doesn’t like to think ahead, and the thought of Olympics feared her. Simone just kept getting more and more successful. She went to every hard world competition there was. She traveled to new places all the time, while she kept getting the gold. She even started to get hate from the press. Simone was the 2013 Artistic Gymnastics World Champion. Many people said since she is a power gymnast, she can’t be artistic and graceful. She wanted to prove them wrong, in which, she did. When Simone saw that she made the 2016 Rio Olympic team, she couldn’t believe it for one minute. Before, her Olympic dream was to simply just make the team and go to Rio with all the amazing experiences like meeting other American Athletes and having all the excitement in the Olympic Village. It was when she had her name called as one of the members of the 2016 Women's Gymnastics Olympic Team that she wanted to do everything she could to win herself and her team the

They were great partners for the Olympics! They won all three of their olympic gold medals, they won their first one in Athens 2004, they won their second one in beijing 2008, and they won their last in London 2012. She was shocked when she did not win and returned home with “shame of losing.” She felt embarrassed of losing and felt as if she had let herself down. It was at that point she realized that the success she could obtain through track and field was in her hands, which only motivated her to train harder. Once qualifying for the Olympic team, she also experienced some psychological challenges. She was such a good runner at such a young age that she would hold back at Olympic practices in order to keep the other girls on the team from becoming jealous of her. She felt very torn, whether or not to excel at practice and work hard or hold on to friendships. She finally got over her fear of losing friends over hard work and decided to run for herself. One of her biggest psychological upsets, however, was after the 1956 Olympics when she did not qualify for the finals in the 200 meter dash. Fortunately, by the end of the Olympics, her 400 meter relay team had surprisingly placed third and came back home with a bronze…
