Twentieth Century Industrialization: The Light Bulb
The Industrial revolution changed the way that peoples lives as well as impacted the economic system during the Industrial Revolution. In the late 19th to early 20th century, the predominantly rural, agrarian society became increasingly industrial and urban due to the rise of factories and crucial innovations such as the power loom and the light bulb. Thomas Edison's light bulb greatly impacted the transition into the industrial revolution. It lengthened the workdays, made homes safer and created many new industries . Many inventors such as Humphrey Davy and Warren de la Rue worked towards bettering the light bulb and made significant advances which allowed Thomas Edison to create his bulb. In fact, many lightbulbs were created before Edison, even though he is often credited with the invention. The problem that all of the previous inventors was the amount of time that the light bulb burned. The early versions had extremely short life spans and were much too expensive to produce. Edison's bulb changed that, he developed a bulb that used a bamboo filament, thus increasing the lifespan from 14.5 hours to 1,200 hours.
