How Did The Watergate Scandal
The Watergate Scandal was a scandal made by President Nixon for the fact that he wanted to get information about the presidential election and it ended up making Nixon seem untrustworthy, which made many people lose trust for their nation. When this happened the people who were working for Nixon ended up getting in trouble because of the illegal action they were trying to pull off. When the whole investigation started to end President Nixon resigned in order for him not to face more charges. This is an even that made people become more aware and question things occurring in their nation. The Watergate Scandal was an event that took place on May 1972. According to an article the trust that was lost was “the biggest impact of the crisis” (pg. 2). Now that citizens started to lose trust they started to question if Nixon had been involved in any other scandals that had happened in the past and was able to get away with it. People were also worried that Nixon would do something worse in the future since he was capable of almost getting away with an illegal scandal. Another thing that caught people’s attention was that Nixon didn’t want to confess that he was involved in the scandal. Nixon decided to confess when an anonymous person, later known as Mark Felt, started working with the Washington Post to get information and found out the truth. When this happened Nixon’s first reaction was to deny what was going on because he knew that if something went wrong he would have to leave his presidential position.
