Tomatoes being a very sensitive plant require these nutrients more and as a result using compost helps them gain those nutrients. The nitrogen in the compost which will be absorbed helps plants grow quickly whilst also allowing the leaves to stay green. Nitrogen also aids in photosynthesis as it helps with the green pigment, chlorophyll. Phosphorus encourages the growth of roots, and helps with the growth of the plant. Potassium also assists in photosynthesis, the fruit quality, the building of protein, and the reduction of disease. Therefore since all those nutrients are present in the compost, the tomatoes which were grown in the compost based soil were provided with these nutrients and as a result produced more yield and had a greater change in height. However since the tomatoes that was grown in the normal based soil did not contain these nutrients they were not given the necessary boost and thus caused the yield to be less and the height to grow relatively
