Romeo has been portrayed to explore the main idea of love throughout the play. In Act 1 Scene one, we see a cold, sorrow type of love by Romeo. This is because Romeo is head over heals in love with Rosaline, but she does not love him back. In Act 1 Scene 1 Romeo says “Ay me, sad hours seem long” This creates the idea that Romeos love for Rosaline is sad and cold, he seems like he is attention seeking. In the movie by Baz Luhrmann Romeo is not as old as he is portrayed to be in the play as in modern times this wouldn't be socially acceptable. Luhrmann has also used wild props such as high power cars, these show how Luhrmann has modernised the play. Baz Luhrmann has changed the clothing of Romeo to give him a more modern look.
