when George shoots Lennie it was justified in the way that it was in the way of mercy saving Lennie from the torture that Curley would have done to Lennie if George did not kill Lennie himself. George did not want Lennie be killed because of what he did, and in the book George finds the body before everyone else and …show more content…
knows that Lennie did this, so he to get crook’s gun and kill Lennie before the lynch mob can. Although George didn't do it for his own self benefit, he was doing it so that Lennie wouldn't have to go through what Curly was going to do to him.
My second statement is that George could not stop Lennie from doing these things over and over again and save him every time knowing that Lennie would never learn from these incidents such as the time in weed where he saw the dress and he just wanted to hold it, the girl got scared, went to the other men to go after Lennie and get him for what he did, so George had to get lennie out of there, so they got on a train and went to Soledad.
But when he gets there he does something wrong again resulting in them having to run yet again. Proving that George could not keep letting Lennie do this to the world without consequence to what he had done, though Lennie could try to teach him to help him he knew he would forget what he
learned.
The third statement is that George could never get Lennie his dream of owning a million rabbits of all colors so he can feed them and work on the farm with their own place, this is due to the fact that Lennie keeps messing around and they have to leave before making money at the end of the month. Also, when George kills Lennie he’s sad to do it and not happy about doing it, and neither is one of the other men who wanted to join the two because he now has nowhere to go because George says he will just go into town and blow all his money and move on to the next job. This dream did seem impossible, though because of the time period this book takes place in, the 1930’s, during the great depression.
So in this essay I gave my reasons on why it was justified for George to kill Lennie in an act of mercy, saving him from society and saving society from Lennie, and so George could continue on to make money and get his own American dream.
