How might theories of leadership and group identity help to explain the Enron collapse?

Leadership within a company often determines whether an organization is successful in its own right, any person responsible for people or a business should have certain traits and attributes which allows them to successfully take on the role. There is a difference between management and leadership: ‘Leadership is setting a new direction or vision for a group that they follow, ie: a leader is the spearhead for that new direction’ but management controls or directs people/resources in a group according to principles or values that have already been established -. It was due to poor leadership and management along with the greediness of the Enron companies leaders such as Jeffery Skilling which led to the collapse of Enron.
There are multiple theories of leadership which must be actively used to be a successful leader. The situational theory projects that the situation within the work place and how the leader reacts to it are the most significant elements in exceptional leadership. The situation comprises of the trust and respect that the workers obligate towards their superior, and how much control the leader has over the reward given for good work by his subordinates.
