Despite the success of the RDP initiative, one can be argued that the government has not done enough to assist the disabled population of South Africa with housing them with enough houses that are compatible for the disabled.
Ensuring that the RDP initiative has been fulfilled will require the government to conduct research on what is firstly suitable for a disabled person in terms of making a house easily accessible for them with reference to things such as the doors, windows depending on ones disability. Secondly the government would need to implement strategies as to how to include a percentage of houses that are disability proof as they are implemented for public areas such a public bathrooms that include one out of ten bathrooms that are included for the …show more content…
The government has provided both these are aspects in the RDP Initiative however have not done this for the disabled. In order to fulfill both these aspects it is imperative that the government firstly evaluates the disability of the paraplegic and the severity of their disability and determine what they would require for the house to be accessible.
In order for these RDP houses supplied by the government to be deemed accessible it is vital that the government is aware of what would be required for the house to be disability proof in terms of having the correct type of flooring for the house as discussed in both Source one and Source Two as the wheels of the paraplegic are bound to get wet from going out of the house should it rain, the floor must have materials that make it hard to slip and rather help the person for grip.
