Would you classify yourself as a “Monday-Hater”? A vast majority of students immensely detest Monday because it signifies the end of a relaxing weekend and the beginning of another stressful, busy week. However, if a four day school week was implemented then Monday could be tagged on to the weekend and everyone would become “Tuesday-Haters”. Woodbury High School (WHS) would benefit from a switch to a four day school week because it would save District 833 money, increase student attendance, and decrease the amount of stress in students.…

Should Portsmouth students go to school for four of five days a week? Portsmouth is a small school district in central Rhode Island. This town's council is not giving the schools enough money, so that is why there are so many budget cuts. Many of the decisions of the school system are pressured upon the school committee. This school's committee, like every school committee, has been elected to office by the parents and the town's people. Portsmouth should have a four day school week because the four day week saves money, provides extra opportunities for both parents and students, and gives students more time to get better grades.…

Wednesdays became uniform inspection day to us “cadets”, and the day I would have loved to avoid. Fridays required physical training, as part of the curriculum, which became our “PT day”. The activities varied between dodgeball, kickball, tennis court volleyball, and other games the instructors created. I added “PT day” to the list of reason I looked forward to the weekend. As a break from physical training, we practiced drilling (marching), watched historic videos about the course, and studied for…

After going over everything on the agenda, our Link Crew coordinator announced we had something we needed to celebrate. She read a letter from one of our guidance counselors at the school. In the letter she described how a parent emailed her a few weeks before school started to tell her that her daughter has anxiety when it comes to new beginnings. She said her daughter stayed home from school her first week of middle school because she was so nervous. However, her first day of high school was a magical experience for her. The parent explained how her daughter was bouncing in her seat at the dinner table describing what a great day she had. Our Link Crew director announced whose group she was in, and sure enough, it was…

    Team Bonding Analysis

This week we did a lot of things. When we came in on Monday we did a team bonding exercise. We first got into groups and elected a leader, recorder and timekeeper. The leader conducted interviews with us and everyone in the group got to know a little bit more about each other. The next activity we did was a human knot. We all has to join hands and then get untangled from each other. That activity made us get physically close but we had to communicate and we also laughed a lot. Anytime you laugh with people it makes you bond so it was effective. For the third activity we had to do a type of relay race where we had to knock down cups, using a tennis ball inside a pantyhose attached to our head. That was pretty hard but we had to cheer for our…
