How to Improve English
HOW TO IMPROVE ENGLISH LEARNER’S PROFICIENCY

English is one of the most widely spoken languages in the world. Gaining English proficiency can be an important aspect of education in many fields from business to aviation to science. Even native English speakers can benefit from increasing knowledge and improving writing skills. There are many accessible ways to improve English proficiency effectively without taking formal classes.

i) Speak Regularly
One of the most important aspects of gaining proficiency in any language is speaking it regularly. Self-study can improve reading and comprehension skills, but interacting with other English speakers is essential for boosting real-world comprehension and practical use of the English language. If you live in a bilingual home, designate a certain amount of time each day for speaking only in English. Making English-speaking friends, perhaps those interested in learning a different language that you speak, can help increase proficiency. Living in an English-speaking country will help immerse you in the language and increase all aspects of your English knowledge.

ii) Media
Watching or listening to media in English is a way to improve English comprehension without feeling like you are studying. Watch popular English movies and listen to English music. Avoid watching dubbed films in favor of those with English voice and subtitles.

iii) Online Learning

The Internet is full of resources that can help you improve your English proficiency. Reading news articles at English news websites is a way to work on reading comprehension. The Internet is one of the best places to go to improve vocabulary since definitions can be looked up easily with a simple web search. It can also be helpful to bookmark an English dictionary website. Some dictionary sites, such as The Free Online Dictionary, have vocabulary games and other learning tools available right on the front page. Free Rice is another vocabulary-building website

I think the most important thing for anyone, is to constantly expose yourself to the language you are trying to learn. This of course goes for me as well, and luckily it is not a hard thing to do in today’s society with the massive influx of American and British television/movies, music and games. This is mainly the things that helped me learn the English language as I grew up, along with of course, the Internet. Aside from the constant exposure I get from the things I listed above, I think the things that will prove most important to me when it comes to learning the English language in the near future will be pure “live” interaction with it. Talking, discussing and expressing myself to others in English.…

English is not my native language, but it was always my dream to be fluent in it. I first started to learn it when I was in elementary school in Russia. At that time we never had to write essays, we only studied the letters, numbers and small vocabulary. Later in the high school I learned descriptive topics and was able to tell and write in English about myself, my family, my country and my hobby. The most of my knowledge came from my college, where English was my second foreign language I have chosen to study, the first one was German. I remember having hard time to rehearse around hundred words for each class, to read long classical texts and complicated newspaper articles. However, the hardest part was to translate from Russian to English complying with the syntax and observing lexical rules. Unfortunately I never had a chance to write an essay in English when I was in college and this, I think is one of my weaknesses. When it comes to writing I feel diffident.…

However, after 10 years of learning English experience I could hardly communicate in English and definitely unable to write an essay, that realy made me frustrating . then, I realized I must make too many mistakes in learning English. it was translating English into Chinese. I just did not feel that learning English is pleasant enough, so i just did it if i had to. At first , every language has its own rules. They usually have different grammar and using of vocabulary, which means learning English by translating it into chinese will lead to an inevitable defeat. For example, I have worked hard on learning a lot of vocabulary by translating them into Chinese. However, those translation processes were hugely disappointing.at that time I failed to express my idea accurately by those translated vocabulary. As a consequence, good grade and improvement seemed untouchable one day I became to reconglize this problem ,desperately and completely stopped translation . one year later, my English was obviously and generally improved. I attribute my success to the stoping of translation. secondly, I am going to talk about reading and writing. They are undoubtedly the key element to learn English comfortably and effectively. Improving English from only doing grammar exercises is usually inferior to reading and writing practice. Only practices can help us to react to the reality. Therefore reading and writing are crucial to our English. For example, I used to study English phrasal verbs for 12 hours before an English exam ,However, i would not read a book in English for 30 minutes every day. The problem is that a huge one-time effort gives you nothing, while small, everyday activities will give you a lot. In conclusion, think in the English way , learning…
