Dragon Ball was a manga series released in Japan on November 10th, 1985, written and illustrated by Akira Toriyama. It followed the adventures of Son Goku and his super powered, martial arts fighting friends, travelling the world searching for the Dragon Balls; seven magical balls that if gathered, grant the user any wish. The manga series became extremely popular, not only in Japan, but around the world. Looking to capitalize off the popularity of Dragon Ball, 20th Century Fox announced that in 2009 they would release a live action Dragon Ball movie called “Dragon Ball: Evolution”. The movie, released on March 13th, 2009, was met with a largely negative reaction and bombed at the box office. Many fans felt that Dragon Ball Evolution deviated from its source material so much that it barely resembled the manga. Perhaps one of the largest differences in Dragon Ball Evolution was the portrayal of the main character, Son Goku. Among the main differences were his age, his upbringing, and the attitude of the character.…

My feelings toward this self-help book are that I was unaware that a person could “train” another human being, similar to what an animal trainer does to exotic or everyday animals. I felt that the author, Amy Sutherland, wrote this self-help book to explain and give advice on how to “train” another person to do what you want them to do; without nagging or verbally demanding what you want them to do. I also felt that the techniques, which were written in this book were given to readers as a chance to improve and strengthen his/her relationship instead of destroying the relationship by making it worse. In my opinion, the techniques and advice given were amazingly interesting and that all of the reasons behind each technique made plenty sense to me.…

First thing is that you need to give them a lot of care and love, such as good food that will be healthy for them, cold water out all the time, and also take them on lots of walks or runs so that he or she can get all the exercise they need. You also need to give them their own area to stay and sleep in, or even a place just to relax so that they feel comfortable and relaxed at all times. Pitbulls like to have their own small space to do all of this in. However you don’t want this area to be their punishment spot, as then they won’t be able to sleep there because they will feel miserable, like they were being a bad dog, and as if they are not welcome in some circumstances. When pitbulls are young you need to train them not to bite. Yes, it might be a playful nip but when they are full grown, they will think it’s okay to bite people when it really is not. To help them learn not to bite people or certain things you need to get them chew toys so they can get their anger and playfulness out on something other than your hand. When they start to nibble or bite on you, you simply need to say no and show them that it hurts you so then they learn that something is wrong when they do that action. For all the training of pitbulls you mostly just need patience, time, and effort or they are going to take over. Be a…

    Dragon as a Metaphor

The Epic Tale of the Dragonslaying Hero has been told a hundred times over. But where did the archetype start? Historians believe that the original Dragonslayer story was the English epic, Beowulf, written sometime between the eighth and eleventh centuries. The story of the Dragonslayer is that of a Hero, who starts off insignificant, but after his journey, is strong enough to face and defeat the evil Dragon. The Hero’s Journey is split into three phases; in order they are: Separation, Initiation, and the Return. The story of Beowulf was written for a specific purpose, other than creating a whole genre. The bards who wrote it as though it was a history, describing the past as the way things are when they wrote it. In a sense, they were trying to rewrite history. It was mainly written in an attempt to convert the Anglo-Saxons to Christianity and change the governing style to Feudalism, among other things. Examples of this are their use of the Forest as a metaphor for Hell. Anglo-Saxon Paganism made the forest the home of their Gods, and the Bards needed to change that. Another element, is the role women play in society. The Bards made women out to be servants, rather than equal. Finally, the bards added Irony to improve the scenes in the story, as irony adds flair to the tale. Nowadays, our society knows that the forest is just a forest, and that women are equal to men, but those concepts put in place by the Bards, along with irony, still show up in our entertainment. You can find it in movies such as Howard McCain’s Outlander, Peter Jackson’s The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King, Chris Columbus’ Harry potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone, and Kenneth Branagh’s Thor. Through the use of the Dragonslaying Metaphor, the Hero’s Journey archetype, and elements such as the Forest being Hell, Women’s Place in Society, and Irony, the Bards of olde concocted an Epic perfect for changing the past and converting the Anglo-Saxons to a…
