government had bad administration they’d take advantage of the government for their own good. The Legislative Branch, also known as the Congress, controls the making of laws, declaration of wars, regulation of interstate and foreign commerce, taxing and spending rules. They are allowed to tax if the money goes towards the needs of the country. In the beginning, they had the Articles of Confederation, which eventually began to cause complications. The colonies finally decided to hold a meeting in Philadelphia in 1787, which came to be called the Constitutional Convention. All states attended except for Rhode Island. On a website it says,” Limited Government- The principle that the power of the government is given only the powers specifically listed in written documents” (Before the Constitution). The government can only do things if they’re within the guidelines. It is still used this way today. The Executive branch enforces the laws and includes the president, his advisors, and many departments and agencies. The Judicial branch is the research and education agency for the federal courts and includes the U.S. Supreme Court and the Federal Judicial Center. The Checks and Balances system made it to where the president can veto Legislation in order to check congress. Although, congress can also check the president and the members of the court. This is achieved using their ability to impeach government officials for “treason, bribery, or other high crimes or misdemeanors”. The Legislative has several ways to check the Executive and Judicial branch. It can override presidential vetoes as long as they have a two-thirds vote, remove the president through impeachment and Senate must approve treaties as well as presidential meetings and appointments. The Legislative can check the Judicial by being able to create lower courts, get rid of judges by impeaching, and Senate also has to confirm meetings of judges. The Executive also has ways to check too. They are able to veto power, call meetings of congress, suggest Legislation, and go to the people for Legislation and more. All the executive branch can do is get the president to assign Supreme Court and other judges. Lastly, The Judicial branch is able to be free from controls of Executive branch once appointed for life and the courts can judge executive actions to be unconstitutional. They can also call unconstitutional on the Legislative branch. There are many steps to turning a bill into a law.
First, a bill has to be launched by a member in the Senate or The House of Representatives. Then it is shown to a committee to be talked over and could possibly be held at public hearings where they can pass, reject, or just take no action at all. After that it is referred to a subcommittee to be looked over and the opinions of the executive branch and other professionals can be recorded. It is then sent to be altered in a meeting with the subcommittee. The full committee will then vote on the bill to be sent to the House or Senate. Once it is approved with the alterations it is passed by the members voting. It will repeat those steps in the other chamber if it is passed by the House and Senate. In the next step they form a conference committee that is a mixture of the House and Senate. They are to agree and compromise about the bill. Both House and Senate have to confirm the bill. The bill finally goes to the president where he will decide if it will be vetoed or approved. If he decides to veto, the congress may try to override, but only if they have a two-thirds
vote. Many people overlook the past and how it has changed us today. This explained how the government kept the citizens in mind as they ruled the country. They believe that the citizens matter and that they should have a say in how things are run. The Constitutional Republic has made America the great country that it is today by separating the governmental power into three branches, the checks and balances system, and the process where bills turn into laws.
