It was this style of teaching my mother instilled in both my sister and me. We were to help one another. One of mother’s favorite sayings at home is “Charity starts at home and ends abroad. For me, charity is more than giving to a food pantry or donating to the local Salvation Army. Charitableness is a lifestyle that embodies love and empathy. And as a Christian, I believe empathy is deep-rooted in my doctrines and beliefs, (Rejoice with them that do rejoice, and weep with them that weep. Romans 12:15)
To combine the entirety of mother’s teachings, the lesson she tried to instill in her children is simple: we, as children of God, are to help one another. And above that, we are to love one another. This idea is the foundation of my worldview, and shapes my actions and character.
Growing up in the Anglican faith also assisted in shaping my viewpoint of the world. A strong church community developed my faith and understanding of God. This allowed my worldview to possess a second characteristic: my belief in God.
Some children prefer music to art. Yet there are those that prefer art to music. In the same way, I believe that the Bible appeals to different people uniquely. One of my favorite verses, lies in the Proverbs, and reads:
