This type of thought process only compromises the work ethics that are to be displayed in any work environment. As Sheehy concluded within the study; the same group of young employees that displayed such poor work ethics still had dreams to pursue the business world believing that there was no reason to take the small“summer job” serious.(Shaw p182) In my experience of being a manager in retail I have dealt with a lot of the same issues described in the study. More when the summer season hits and teens are looking for that extra source of income. Laziness, self entitlement, and a lack of taking responsibility are the most common complaints I have been faced with the most when dealing with the younger generation of employees. The difference of the “new work ethic”displayed amongst the younger generation is only a matter of maturity and self growth in my opinion.
