The credible article from the University library I selected was The Family and Consumer Sciences Research Journal, by McFadden, Joan R; Rawson Swan, Kay T. I selected this article, because it shows the changes in health and family roles that can lead to increased stress and/or depression or alternatively to feelings of well-being ultimately resulting in a midlife crisis. In the article the authors suggest that there is a need for "life transition" courses for women who are interested in understanding how to improve their health and well-being. The actual midlife crisis starts in order to establish the suggested changes…

Another example I came across was a young girl named Lily, who was being bullied because of her size. She was holding so much anger, it caused her to feel insecure. A couple days later, a girl named Samantha started rumors at school saying “ Lily, is overweight and dumb !” Lily watched the people laugh at her and she felt as if she was the only one who could save herself from her surroundings. In contrast , those rumors were not true , but the rumors kept spreading throughout the day and the coming days. As the days went by more horrifying experiences were happening to Lily. By another student starting false rumors about Lily made her not want to go to school anymore and made her feel insecure about her weight which led her to do the worse of all things. Lily ended her life by overdosing on medication…

Born on May 18, 1889, American engineer and chemist Thomas Midgley, Jr. was controversial for two of his discoveries. One, he discovered the Freon while working for General Motors in 1930. He intended it to be a safe non-toxic refrigerant to be used in household appliances, to replace the dangerous refrigerants used before like ammonia and propane. Freon and other CFCs soon replaced the various toxic or explosive substances previously used as refrigerants, and were later used in other applications, such as propellants in aerosol spray cans and asthma inhalers. The Society of Chemical Industry awarded Midgley the Perkin Medal in 1937 for this work. However, Midgley's discovery resulted in damage to the earth's Ozone layer.…

The Dynamic Model of wellbeing (Abdallah et.al.2011) uses his model to illustrate how a person’s external condition act together with a person’s personal resource to enable them to function well or maybe not so well to experience positive emotions. There are four main factors within this model, personal resources, external conditions, good functioning and satisfaction of needs and flourishing. With the use of each of these factors it has given me a visual demonstration of how these are put to use and how they need to be used to achieve the end result of a positive emotion of well-being. The model builds a basic structure of what a person needs to achieve this, so for instance the personal resources has helped me to understand that by having…

Those who are happiest, never have everything; rather, they are thankful for everything they do have. In an ideal world, everything would be perfect for each of us. There would be no restrictions, no hardships, and no sadness. Unfortunately, such a world is unattainable, which is why we have to make do with the good we do have; something we all possess, no matter how bad things may seem. Dwelling on all the things you do not have will never leave you satisfied, and will never let you be truly happy. Happiness is acceptance, perspective, and embracing all you have.…

In the articles titled “The Secret to Deeper Happiness Is Simpler Than You Might Think” by Ginny Graves (2017) and “Happiness Is Other People” by Ruth Whippman (2017), both authors acknowledged that the source of happiness is important. Graves delivered her stand objectively and professionally, explaining that the source of happiness should come naturally by pursuing activities that coincide with one’s values and comes within oneself. In contrast, Whippman was overreacting and informal in her explanation that happiness from within had led to a communication issue with people spending lesser time connecting with other people. Graves, as a whole, delivered an article that had a stronger argument by quoting reliable sources from different professions that were respectable in their field and utilizing the modes of persuasion to convince the readers.…

Mental health plays a role in everyone’s lives if they know it or not. Record of mental illness dates back as early as 3500 BC in ancient Mesopotamia as evidenced by the discovery of trephined skulls. Along with Mesopotamia, the ancient civilizations of Egypt, Greece, Rome, and India attributed the will of the gods or demonic possession to why individuals would act outside of the norms of society, when the root of the problem had less supernatural reasons, and was actually caused by mental illness. Hippocrates was the first to introduce the concept of disturbed physiology as the basis for all illnesses. (Lyons) This placed mental illness on the same level as other medical disorders from the belief that the mentally ill are genuinely suffering,…

Dynamite was invented by Alfred Nobel and was the first safely manageable explosive stronger than black powder. Nobel obtained patents for his invention: in England on 7 May 1867 and in Sweden on 19 October 1867. He originally sold dynamite as "Nobel's Blasting Powder". After its introduction, dynamite rapidly gained popularity as a safe alternative to gunpowder and nitroglycerin. Nobel tightly controlled the patent, and unlicensed duplicators were quickly shut down. However, a few American businessmen…
