Life starts with learning.
From the day you're born until the day you die you are taught to absorb your surroundings and indulge in the joys of life, love, and education. That experience continues in college. Through college we gain maturity, find out who we are and learn to better ourselves. I believe college is important for all of those reason and more. In college we gain job experience, we have a better chance of obtaining a high paying job, and college gives us a broader perspective of life. To enhance my understanding I decided to go college. According to my research I want to go to Virginia Tech or University of Maryland. Virginia Tech and University of Maryland are both among the top main colleges in the area. In this essay I will compare them by their engineering programs, affordable tuition, and a good location. Although both V-Tech and UMD are well known for their engineering programs but, however, V-Tech has a variety of academic programs to offer that might attract the student. Virginia Tech has one of the best engineering programs. as the school of engineering college. On the other hand, UMD also has a variety of options. UMD offers one hundred five degree programs. UMD also has one of the best engineering programs as compared to V-Tech. Due to so many options it is really hard to decide to pick any one of them. Tuition for V-Tech is a little more expensive as compared to UMD but V-Tech has some great benefits that UMD does not offer. V-Tech offers twenty five percent more incoming freshman with financial aid and on the other hand University of Maryland offers twenty nine percent incoming freshman with financial aid. V-Tech in state undergraduate tuition is $10,496 and UMD in state undergraduate tuition is $9,427 excluding books, room, and food cost. If you decide to go to UMD, you would have to move out of your house and rent an apartment near the college or live on campus but if you decide not to move out then you would have to drive there and pay for gas which isn’t that cheap. Living on campus would cost about $9,018 and for books $2,968. However, V-Tech offers twenty seven percent more of undergraduates with grant aid support than UMD undergraduates. V-tech’s acceptance rate are seventy percent where as UMD acceptance rate are only forty seven point nine percent. Now by looking at their acceptance rate you could imagine how hard it would be to get into University of Maryland. Virginia Tech has 31,224 students attending this semester whereas University of Maryland has 37,610 students attending the college. This shows that V-Tech is little expensive then UMD when it comes to cost but has more students than Virginia Tech because of their exceling engineering programs. Though both colleges are worth attending. But when it comes to cost and tuition then V-Tech is better. The next most important component in attending the college that you’re interested in is to figure out its location and how you’re going to get there. Both of the colleges location is convenient for students living in the area compare to the location of University of Maryland.
This is because University of Maryland is an out state college, but I am lucky since I have a house in Maryland I wouldn’t have to pay out of state tuition and extra money. V-Tech is only two hours away from Woodbridge. Whereas UMD is one hour and fifteen away from Woodbridge. V-Tech and UMD are both easily accessible by train, car, and bus. UMD has beautiful places like Ocean city, Harriet Tubman museum, US naval academy and many more. Whereas V-Tech also has few nice places like the April 16th monument, the Virginia tech duck pond, down town Blacksburg and many more. They have a variety of different restaurants located near University of
Maryland. Virginia Tech has football, baseball, and basketball, cross country, soccer, tennis, track, volleyball, and many more. They pretty much have all the sports that one could think of. University of Maryland also has the same sports. Both the colleges has bunch of clubs and organizations on campus. For example: robotics club, science club, programming club and many more.
Virginia Tech and University of Maryland are both among the top main colleges in the area but to choose the best would be very difficult for me. This is because both colleges have one of the best academic programs, location and tuition. They have a lot of programs to offer, but I would rather go to Virginia Tech.
