Humorous Wedding Speech: A Personal Narrative Of My Life
When I first began oral communications, the speech I was most excited to give was the interview speech. This is because I knew exactly who I wanted to do and that it would be interesting to get to ask him about his life. In my last speech, I had some struggles and didn’t perform in a way that I strive for. This motivated me to practice my skills more and get better. Just this past week I decided I would give the sport of wrestling a shot. In the past, I have participated in basketball. Since I’m one of the shorter kids in my class I thought I should give up this sport and try something new. Into my first week of wrestling I picked up a quote that’s left a deep affect on me. Coach Allen told us a quote by Winston Churchill that says, “Failure isn’t fatal, and success isn’t final.” This quote says a lot about my personal experience and interview …show more content…
I felt like I was about to present my grandfather's life in a very vivid way, and show how great of a person he was. Still, there a few things I wish I would have done differently. One thing I would have changed was telling the story about my grandpa’s condition at this point in his life. In my speech, I only said the doctors told him he had few hours left in his life but he overcame this issue. I didn’t give much explanation to what was happening during this occurrence. Instead, I should have talked about he had a blood clot in his leg and they thought he would need his leg amputated, but he couldn’t do a surgery. Luckily, the clot wasn’t as bad as they expected, and he was able to go home. Like every speech I’ve done this year, I also wish I would have used more gestures during the course of my speech. This helps the audience understand my message and keeps them involved. I also think I could have started the speech in a more capturing way. Truly, I’m very content with how things went in my speech, but like anything, there always some improvement that can be

Wrestling is tough, it is a sport much from its participants, but if one has the courage to step out on the mat dressed in a uniform that leaves a little imagination and challenge another human to a match to see who the better man is. Danger can be found in every sport, and wrestling are no more prone to injury’s to soccer, football, track stars, lacrosse. Wrestling creates a sense of accountable for one’s actions. Those that work hard, succeed. There is no one to hide behind; every flaw and mistake is brought forth in a match. It takes a great deal of mental toughness and sacrifice nights with friends for extra practice and consideration, favorite food to lose the extra pound, and sleep when one needs to wake up at 4am to go for a run before school begins. That competitive nature of clashing with another human being creates a sense of community within the wrestling world. Those that have never participated in the sport have a tough time understanding this. Opponents’ must shake hands before and after, showing respect for the other fighter, win or lose. It is uncommon to see administration in the form of an embrace even after one has lost a tough battle. These values are created through combative sports, and stay with a wrestle for the remainder of their…

Although you did look at your notes a little longer than I would have liked, you looked at your notes a lot less and it made it look like you were really on top of your stuff. Another big thing for me is you raised your voice and you looked more comfortable in front of the class. You also incorporated humor into the speech which I think is necessary when talking about something so sad but I think you should do next time is maybe incorporate a little less funny jokes just to show you are truly saddened by what's going on. I think adding the visual aid was really important because I think it helped keep you on track and on pace.…

INTRO: As most of you guys know, I really enjoy statistics so when Miguel Cabrera won the Triple Crown this year, I instantly knew what I was going to inform you guys about. What makes this even better is that I have been a tigers fan all my life and he is my favorite baseball player of all time. With made his season really incredible in my eyes is that he changed positions to 3B before the season to welcome his good friend from Milwaulkee, Prince Fielder.…

As the music changed, a small boy of seven years old came hurried down the aisle holding a lighter. He walked right past us to the small table and lit the two lower candles. The only thing on his mind was getting his job done without burning down the house with his lighter. Following directly after him was the procession of bridesmaids. The first bridesmaid walked down the aisle, she was a friend of the bride. Right after her followed the second bridesmaid, her niece. Two more sisters followed the bridesmaid path and then, last but not least, the Maid of Honor made her way down the aisle. As the bride’s best friend finished her walk there came another small child. The ever popular flower girl of only three years old stumbled down the aisle…

The poetry was a fun activity, for it made me use my imagination to create titles and come up with a poem that would go with it. I must say some of the poems were a lot easier to write than the others. The transformation, welcome, acrostic, bio, ode, change, list, concrete, parody, and my favorite place poem were the easiest while the rest, not so much. The narrative poem was one of the hardest to write because I had a hard time following a certain foot and meter. The hokku was difficult was difficult because a certain line had to be a certain number of syllables. Also, it was hard to put a poem into a…

I had a rough draft made, but I decided it didn't go with how I was feeling with everything going on. I decided to write the paper that would prove to my mother why I should continue to do wrestling. I had many ideas that I wrote down like quotes that apply, but I didn't realize till after I wrote the ideas down, that I was wasting too much time thinking of what to write than actually typing the paper. I thought about the people that made me realize that I want to continue to wrestling. I got the sense of why wrestling can help me learn things that I can use for the future. "It's that kind of sport where you look in the mirror and you either see a winner or a loser" I was told from a wise man I met at a wrestling match. Learning to be confident is part of winning or losing a match. Usually whoever put more hours of work into wrestling, it's a most guaranteed win. But everybody makes mistakes and that's when part of confidence comes in. Wrestling teaches many things that other sports doesn't always. I think it's one of the hardest, but most rewarding sports anyone can participate in. "Always improving" my coach always tells me. Like in writing my teacher explains, "It's never finished; it's just due." I'm starting to fathom how wrestling applies to many things in…

“You can quit when you are finished.” My dad has been saying this my entire life. Everytime he said that I took it to heart because, it is a powerful saying if you really and truly follow it. I had followed that saying my whole life relatively easily, until my freshman year of wrestling. During that season I was tested in how much I really believed in what my dad had been saying.…

I started wrestling in sixth grade. Even though I didn’t win one of my first seven matches, I developed into a successful wrestler. In high school I won tournaments and beat high-quality wrestlers. During my junior year I was determined to become a great wrestler. I worked harder than ever and didn’t let anyone stop me. That year I lost the Illinois state wrestling tournament championship match by one point. Over the next six months between my junior and senior season I was runner up at AAU national tournament and wrestled at Disney Land in Florida at the Disney Duals with over 50 other teams and only lost 1 of 8 matches. These are a few of my achievements in high school. Now that I am in college there are many similarities and differences between high school practices and college practices.…

For as young as I was it is unfathomable to me on how or where I gathered my confidence in speaking my speeches publically on Memorial Day for the past few years, but then I remembered I had support from many aspects in my life which helped me gather together the ideas for writing and the confidence to express/communicate my morning thoughts to the community for the Memorial Service at the Bayview Cemetary. I tried my best every year at making sure my speech was written by self with the help of an adult advisor who happen to be my Aunt and the Legion coordinator for the Memorial Poppy Girl this was lucky for me yet also a curse because it gave me first place in Poppy Girl, there was a year or two I advised a younger Poppy girl being a senior…

Marriage. This had started because of a marriage. Marriage wasn't a foreign concept to Lalette Thelwell, not entirely... She knew that it bound a man and women together, and that once bound... children often filled their home. Boys were mischief makers and little thieves that slipped their tiny hands into unwary pockets where the little girls only sold pretty flowers... Lalette had read countless stories about love, marriage, and courtship, but she had never considered…

The speaker’s ability to speak extemporaneously was quite good because he seemed very prepared to speak, but it would have been better had he been able to add more emotion to the speech. Although, he gave a great introduction with a well thought out attention getter and thesis, he seemed to be just remembering previous times he had given his speech. I would have been more engaged had he seemed less bored with what he was saying. Since his topic is a quite touching one, I naturally felt a little engaged, but I think he easily could have used this to his advantage to highly immerse his audience by their…
