I Ll Cover You Analysis
I'll Cover You in the first song I chose to write about, it is also the song I chose to represent homosexuality. While Collins never verbalizes that he is a gay man- he does fall in love with Angel. Granted we don't Angels "official" gender identity. I'll Cover You was my song of choice because even though they don't blatantly talk about being homosexual in this song it is a song about their relationship. Ultimately they are talking about wanting to be together and care for each other no matter what. Something that in the gay community is a huge thing because still to this day couples in the LGBT community have an incredibly hard time comfortably displaying affection in pubic. For example Australia currently has an advertisement going around using the hashtag #holdtight …show more content…
Whistle Angel isn't actual transgender, he is the character meant to represent the transgender community. Speaking of the transgender community they have made incredible strides even the past three years. The life of a transgender person in the 90's when RENT takes place compared to today is exceedingly different. The medications and procedures are becoming much more readily available and in return is saving so many of their lives. A huge issue still occurring today is the ability for the trans community to use their bathroom of the gender they associate with. Especially with our current president trying to revoke some of the incredible progress Obama was able to make. According to an article in Independent states are making a stand and going against Trumps orders to continue to allow the trans community to use the bathroom they best identify with. Either way our sense of community in the LGBT community is continuing to grow. Which leads me into my third song and

Now, considering both Lorde and Alike are black, lesbian, women, it is important to correlate their standing with current LGBT issues in the world today. For instance, the most interesting one being Mississippi’s religious freedom bill. To explain, this bill states that any business owner may deny service to people due to their sexual orientation if it acts against their religious beliefs. And although gay marriage is legal and their rights are being taken into consideration more than ever before, there are still states in the U.S.A that try and pass anti-gay laws, this being one of them. Moreover, many LGBT rioters are protesting this bill and now the legality of it will be soon be determined by the U.S. supreme court. In acknowledging this justice issue, it depicts how society still has not come to full terms with people who are LGBT. This being said, more people need to stand up and “Yes, I am a black lesbian (pg.132), as both Lorde and Alike have said.…

6.3 billion people are culturally diversified in the world. A culture consists of countless multicultural components consisting of values, beliefs, attitudes, and customs. Culture can transform anyone. There are many examples of different cultures. For example, culture can be expressed by language, clothing, their house, religion, and much more. Throughout my first book, If I Ever Get Out Of Here, each character had different cultural components to their life. Lewis Blake , one of the main characters, lives through life challenges every day. He is not blessed with things that most people have. For example, his house is caving in,…

One interviewee that still participates within gay organizations stated that AIDS/ HIV is no longer a topic of discussion within the gay community (Weissman & Weber, 2011). There is a difference between a “transgender,” “transsexual,” and a “non-gender conforming” individual. A transgender is a person whose self-identity differs from their ascribed status. To clarify, an ascribed status is something that is assigned to a person at birth which cannot be altered such as skin color— in this case— sex; meanwhile, a transsexual is a person who willingly undergoes plastic surgery to actually alter their birth sex. A non-gender conforming person is someone who does not abide from society’s stereotypical views of how they should appear or behave based on what their ascribed status was originally. For example, in society the average female should appear as delicate as a porcelain doll with hair below shoulder length, pastel…

As the camera pans back, Mr. Blonde stands up and turns, holding the officer’s bloody severed ear in his hands. This verse is a reflection of Mr. Blonde, and how he sees his lifestyle. He is very proud of his past transgressions, and is very much at one with the fact that he is a hardened criminal, who not only lives the lifestyle, but enjoys it. The lyrics: (And your friends, they all come crawlin, Slap you on the back and say), refers his friends Joe and ‘Nice Guy’ Eddie, who asked him for his involvement in the film’s robbery, and for whom he did a ‘stretch’ in jail rather than give them up to the authorities: as he was loyal to them in the past, they would return the favor with an “easy” score. While he taunts his victim , the officer moans in both pain and pleading, as he sits cut open and bleeding, seemingly hoping and praying for an end to the pain (Please.... Please.....).…
