I Wonder If I Ll Still Be Bored In An Attic
I wonder if my life would be something more in this attic. I wonder if I’ll still be bored in this prison of an attic. Would I be better off alone? I just want to feel some joy in my life, and I am ready for this dark cloud of boredom to disappear. My husband fails to do so and I wonder if he even knows how to treat a lady? I guess not because I’m here bored and sad because I’m doing nothing with my life. The sky seems so nice, looking at it through my window gives me some type of aesthetic pleased feeling. I bet the sky is in a great mood it changes it’s color to show its happiness. While I’m looking out of my window I see Sergi walking the dogs. Great! Now why is this man walking through my yard? Don’t let the dogs go keep them on the leash.

It’s shown in the beginning of the short story and also in my first person retelling that her mind is stuck in the attic with the stuck feeling of boredom because it is demanded of her to do nothing as a women. Katherina has no control of her life in the house because the men in her life have captivity over her. Aizlewood states, “The boredom of Katerina’s existence is directly linked to the space in which she is confined” (415). The space she is confined to is the locked house and mainly the attic. Katerina is living a restricted life while she suffocates in her thoughts and the best thing she can do is move room to room with this feeling of boredom. This is due to the patriarchal element of the house. The house is ruled by men that have control of everything and because Katerina is a female she has no say or control. Aizlewood states, “The house as an imprisoning space is primarily associated with the patriarchal and socio-economic order” (412). This is followed by how it is the wealthy house of her father-in-law who is a man. I decided to incorporate in my retelling as well that because Katerina is living in a patriarchal house that is ruled by men that she can’t do anything and the norm for that time is for her to sit and do nothing which will result in her being bored over time and the feeling of being stuck will gradually
