The meeting members consisted of the General Education teacher, Special Education teacher, Psychologist, Nurse, Social Worker, and the Special Education Coordinator. Each member brought their findings and evidence into the meeting for review and discussion. Most of this evidence was already placed in the IEP for parent discussion and review, but neither took place because of the parent’s refusal to attend. (Walters, personal communication at IEP meeting, May 10, 2017) A phone call was made to her towards the end of the meeting to confirm her preference of participation, the information discussed, and to confirm agreement with the IEP. The results of the student’s academic behavior for day to day activity was discussed as well as the behavior plans set in place. There were points brought up to explain the student’s home life to consider in the reasoning for his behavior. The Social Worker brought up the conditions of the family life. She said the student doesn’t spend time at home on the weekends, but instead at a grandparent’s and the father is incarcerated at this time.
