Impact Of Maxilofacial Surgery

As a young adolescent, I have always been quite resilient. No matter what obstacle I have encountered, I always find a way to make strides to triumph through research and perseverance. Learning to adapt to my parents separating; transitioning after being shifted into high honors classes from mainstreaming during sixth grade; adapting to new teaching fundamentals and catching up with honor students one year ahead; learning to expand my lungs by running on the track team despite having severe asthma; and changing my eating lifestyle due to health conditions are some of life’s challenges that I’ve experienced. However, sustaining maxillofacial surgery in the eleventh grade was the one experience that made an immense impact on my life solidifying medical study for my future. I remember having to get braces in the summer of seventh grade. My orthodontist mentioned that I had an underbite and from there my fixation on what that meant began. I asked him countless questions, including if this impacted my mouth given that it was always open. He answered yes, but did promise the braces would correct the bite being less noticeable.
