1.1 Background
In all organisation regardless of which fields, human capital plays a major role in ensuring success. And a key to maintaining its pool of human capital is to ensure that there are able to have employee retention. Not only does it affect the productivity of the organisation, high employee turnover rates can also tell stakeholder about the reputation of the organisation. In this literature review, the need for employee retention and the importance of it especially to a specific field of specialisation.
1.2 Research Objectives
As the title states, there are two reason as to why this topic is worth investigating. Firstly, employees’ retention is important to every industry worldwide, however, unlike certain industries whereby fields of expertise are common between organisations(e.g. banking and finance), what makes it unique to the F&B(food and beverages) industry is that the skills and knowledge of the employees are not easily transferrable and are crucial in ensuring the success of the organisation and the fields of expertises are not simply modules or subjects that can easily be learnt from a mentor or in school.
Secondly, in order to achieve this, what challenges will be faced and factors are crucial to attain employees’ retention.
2. Literature Review
2.1 Selection and Placement
The first practice that is found to be important is the selection and placement of a suitable candidate for the job. When looking into a specific field, in this case, Food & Beverage field, a suitable candidate with the correct skill set and attitude have to filter in order to hire the right person for the right job. The question in mind is how to identify the correct person for the job?
