INTRODUCTION
Written communication is a type of communication that takes place between individuals through written form such as letters, memos, reports e.t.c
Oral communication is a type of communication whereby messages are sent from sender to receiver by means of speech. Examples include telephone calls, meetings, face to face conversations e.t.c
In this writing I am going to look at the importance of a supervisor warning a subordinate when he commits a serious mistake in the running of the business.
Here are the importance of warning the subordinate through written communication as compared to oral communication:
i. It appears formal and authoritative. When the supervisor is warning the subordinates of mistakes done orally, they may take the situation lightly. On the other hand receiving of an official warning letter of the mistakes they did and explaining how they went again policy may be taken to be very serious and the subordinate may become more aware of the situation they are in.
ii. Written communication is more accurate that oral communication in the sense that the supervisor is able to correct on the information he is trying to send to the subordinate before it is sent, unlike in oral communication whereby once you speak, one cannot take back what was said. Sending of written communication may prevent the supervisor from speaking out of his way.
iii. Written communication is more precise and explicit. Written communication is more explicit and precise in the sense that when the subordinate receives the written warning letter he/she is able to check in the company handbook or any sort of reference to check
