To start with, “Buffalo Bill’s” is talking about Buffalo Bill and how he died. Cummings explains that he dies in the first two lines, “Buffalo Bill’s/defunct” (lines 1-2). Something that is “defunct” is dead. Buffalo Bill fought in the American Civil War and he had his show about the Wild West. The next poem is “in Just-.“ While reading this poem, the reader can just imagine a beautiful spring day. When it has rained a lot and no one can go outside so all they do is sit and wait for the beautiful sun to come out. When it starts to get warm and sunny, they all go out to celebrate. They know it is the right time when the balloonman “whistles far and wee/and eddieandbill come running from marbles” (Cummings 5-7). When reading about Eddie and Bill leaving their game to go outside and play, one can just close their eyes and actually see it happen.
The last poem is “O sweet spontaneous.” Imagine someone pinching and poking at the earth. That is what Cummings was talking about when he wrote, “fingers of/prurient philosophers pinched/and poked” (5-8). He is saying that they do not treat the earth properly. Even though they use the earth for their own want and need, the earth still gives us a beautiful season every year; spring.
