Independence Day Speech
Good morning respected principal, Father John, teachers and all the students present here. I am truly grateful to Father Ajit Kumar Xess for thinking me worthy of addressing this august gathering. Let me begin by congratulating all of you at the golden Jubilee of your school and also wishing each and every one of u a very Happy Independence Day.
For over half a century our nation has sprung, stumbled, run, followed, rolled over, gotten up and dusted herself. As students, we must always be reminded of this constant perseverance that has always been the backbone of success of our nation today. We live in a country whose faith in success is far greater than her fear of failure. We no longer boycott foreign goods but buy the companies that produce them instead.
At this juncture we must also think of our freedom fighters who laid down their lives for our country’s independence. When they began with their struggle, they were young, just like you and me. Their struggle, dedication and unrelenting zeal transformed us into a free nation. They dreamt big, stayed focused, and fought against all odds to achieve their goal. As we stand here, at the threshold of a new phase in our lives, we must take valuable lessons from them and incorporated these into our lives.
We must also think of the India today and compare it with the India that the people who fought for our independence, had in their minds. They fought for a free country where everyone would be regarded as equal, every Indian would have equal opportunities. But the India that we see today is not quite as it was imagined to be. We still have a long way to go. Even though, as Indians, we have a lot to be proud of: we are the citizens of a country which has given birth to scholars like Rabindranath Tagore, Amartya Sen, Scientists like Jagdish Chandra Bose, C.V. Raman, visionaries like Mahatma Gandhi and Sportspersons like Kapil Dev, Saina Nehwal, who have represented our country and brought respect to our nation,

Black slavery in the South created a bond among white Southerners and cast them in a common mold. Slavery was also the source of the South 's large agricultural wealth, which led to white people controlling a large black minority. Slavery also caused white Southerners to realize what might happen to them should they not protect their own personal liberties, which ironically included the liberty to enslave African Americans. Because slavery was so embedded in Southern life and customs, white leadership reacted to attacks on slavery after 1830 with an ever more defiant defense of the institution, which reinforced a growing sense among white Southerners that their values eventually divided them from their fellow citizens in the Union. The South of 1860 was uniformly committed to a single cash crop, cotton. During its reign, however, regional differences emerged between the Lower South, where the linkage between cotton and slavery as strong, and the Upper South, where slavery was relatively less important and the economy more diversified. Plantations were the leading economic institution in the Lower South. Planters were the most prestigious social group, and, though less than five percent of white families were in the planter class; they controlled more than forty percent of the slaves, cotton, and total agricultural wealth. Most had inherited or married into their wealth, but they could stay at the top of the South 's class structure only by continuing to profit from slave labor. Planters had the best land. The ownership of twenty or more slaves enabled planters to use a gang system to do both routine and specialized agricultural work, and also permitted a regimented pace of work that would have been impossible to impose in free agricultural workers. Teams of field hands were supervised by white overseers and black drivers, slaves selected for their management skills and agricultural knowledge.…

America was founded on freedom; it is a celebrated right. Yet not everyone had the freedom that was so treasured. Some people had to keep fighting for the freedom long after the Revolutionary War. Frederick Douglas, in his speech, “What to the slave is the fourth of July” and Elizabeth Cady Stanton in her Declaration of Sentiments of the Seneca Falls Women’s Rights Convention, share stories and explain how two groups of people, slaves and women, fight for their individual freedom. Both authors wrote two different pieces for different people, but by comparing and contrasting both texts it is evident that while the struggles of each person are different, both require the same perseverance to gain their freedom.…

In the long history of the world, only a few generations have been granted the role of defending freedom in its hour of maximum danger. I do not shrink from this responsibility—I welcome it. I do not believe that any of us would exchange places with any other people or any other generation. The energy, the faith, the devotion which we bring to this endeavor will light our country and all who serve…

One of the first ways my generation plays a unique roll is by studying our nation’s history. If we do not learn from the mistakes of past generations and leaders, then we are doomed to make the same mistakes of the past. This rising new American generation must take the time to study our heritage. We must learn the values of which this great nation was founded upon. We must become active in America’s current…

"Conformity is the jailer of freedom and the enemy of growth,"-John F. Kennedy. The king of Great Britain was imposing taxes on us without our consent. He cut off all of our trades with the world, and he has abdicated government here, by declaring us out of his protection and waging war against us. The question is if gaining our independence is a good idea or not? I believe we should allow him to cut all connections with us because that way we can enforce our own laws and grow as a fair country where everyone votes and are all equal. Gaining our independence will take time which we will make it without Britain.…

Today, I am here today to convince you to join the noble fight for abolition and march together in front of our Capitol to incite change. Together, our protest will raise the attention of those who can make a change on a legislative level.…

Being an American, I am a true believer that our flag should not be desecrated in anyway, especially by our own citizens. When thinking of the American flag it is more than just a flag to many Americans, it is a symbol of those who have fought for us to have the rights and freedoms we have today, represents those who have died in battle, and the pride we have in our country. When and if someone desecrates our flag I believe they should be punished.…

Good evening gentlemen of Massachusetts. Thank you for coming. We are gathered here this evening to discuss the basic principles of the United States of America. Almost 50 years after our Founding Fathers put their finishing touches on the Declaration of Independence, we find ourselves in a dilemma, caused by contradicting views of said document. One of those Founding Fathers, Thomas Jefferson passionately preached about the importance of our natural rights- life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.…

Every generation needs to be acquainted with our country’s hard fought struggle for freedom. I was born in Hanover County, Virginia to two hardworking, tender parents on May 29, 1736. At the youthful age of eighteen, I wed my beloved Sarah Shelton (may she rest in peace) and began working as a planter like my father. After this failed attempt due to a catastrophic fire that consumed our home, I arduously worked as both a student and my own teacher to familiarize myself with the law . My endeavor as a lawyer proved to be prosperous, for I had made a renowned name for myself as an orator. On May 20, 1765 I succeeded in securing for myself a seat in the Virginia House of Burgesses . Time and time again, I found myself in generous opposition with Great Britain and her arbitrary acts of colonial exploitation. As prospects for war in hopes American independence became auspicious, I urged the public to support the American cause and the conviction for unrestricted liberty . The nation’s triumph against Great Britain proved that America is more than equipped to be a nation of prosperity AND democracy. This is a nation where we can choose to govern ourselves in rectitude and solidarity. This is a nation where a Virginian can live side by side with…

    Proud of Being an Indian

India is perhaps the world's largest developing country. I don't know when we shall be classified as a developed one. When one compares India to the United States of America or the United Kingdom or russia, it will always remain developing, I fear. It is because Indians that can make a difference are not in India. India is severely lacking in a strong backbone comprised of accomplised, educated and hard working citizens, who are now living abroad in one of those developed countries. I am aware that India has its own priced possessions (Reliance, Tata, Raymond, HCL, Maruti Udyog etc.). Even so, we are yet to walk away with a victory in the International RACE. The fact that India is a developing country does not lie in just that. We are recognised for being the world's largest population, behold, we even topped the list of countries with largest murder count this year and we are a hotspot for terrorist activities. With such drawbacks, a weak government (that announces rise in prices of almost every commodity. Good heavens, my parents cannot stop cribbing about that!) running the world's largest democracy and a lethargic police force (Aarushi's case and several others prove just how ineficient and incompetent they can be), what can an Indian expect? Wouldn't Indians rather choose to live a much more comfortable life that marks lesser danger (reminder: Mumbai blasts 1993, Western Railway bombings 2006 etc.) and earns them better money for the same amount of work done?…

by Shannon Mooney According to Ayurveda, health is our natural, balanced state. Ayurveda defines the many substances and influences, both internal and external, that are beneficial and detrimental to our bodies. While avoiding every substance or situation that is unhealthy is nearly impossible in today's world, the wisdom of Ayurveda can boost your understanding of health and support choices that lead to a balanced state of being. Ayurveda offers knowledge to increase awareness of the factors that may cause imbalance and ways to create balance by regulating the systems of the body through diet, lifestyle, herbs, yoga and meditation. The Ayurvedic scope of health is holistic, encompassing a balanced body, mind, and spirit. The experiences we have in our relationships, including thoughts, feelings and emotions, can be equally as influential on our state of health as are foods and other ingested substances. It can be as difficult for a pitta individual to digest a hurtful criticism from their spouse, for example, as it is to digest a plate of greasy french fries. When pitta dosha flares, the body may express this imbalance as an itchy, red rash, excess heat, impatience, or even an emotional explosion of anger. Ayurveda teaches that routine detoxification can be invaluable for maintaining good health during seasonal changes. Summer is the season where pitta dosha accumulates in the body. Particularly if an individual's constitution is pitta predominant, the increase in excess heat can become reactive, settle in the tissues, and manifest as an imbalance if it is not properly eliminated. Ayurveda offers solutions to help the body dispose of toxins as nature intended before they have a chance to take hold and cause disorder. When there is an excess of pitta dosha and a health problem arises, toxins usually accompany it. Common toxins are bacteria, viruses, drugs, heavy metals, pesticides, chemicals, and other environmental pollutants.…
