Industrial Revolution Impact On Society
Industrial Revolution From steam engines to steam boats, from the flying shuttle to the spinning jenny these are just a few of the most prominent aspects of the Industrial Revolution. Britain prior to the eighteenth century was predominantly an agrarian society, in which the majority population resided in rural areas. In the span of the eighteenth and nineteenth century Britain burgeoned into an urban society and most notably the birthplace of the industrial revolution. The Industrial Revolution is believed to be a revolution due expansive influence it had on society through facets such as the change in society socially, and innovative new notable mechanization. A family unit went from a consistently intimate working atmosphere at a farm or cottage to a dispersed and varied occupational environment like working at a textile mill or mine. This directly correlates to the definition of a revolution; in order to have a revolution there must be an impact, which transforms society. The change of family roles still equates to society currently by the diverse occupations that are seen in a families. The marginalization of woman and the need for a husband to be a sole provider created a notable change from the beginning of the revolution where women would often work. This sudden regression back into the typical gender roles caused turmoil financially because the women who were formerly working and creating income had to go back to being homemakers. The homemaker role for women was perpetuated until the early nineteen hundreds. In retrospect when looking at a women’s role in society the major changes that have occurred are relatively current, which displays the effect on these roles. Mechanization did not only create the revolution but is one of the primary reasons the Revolution is considered to be one. The ability for machines to mass production was a facet, which could not be disregarded, and is still incorporated in modern day society. The influence that mass production created is practically infinite and created a way of producing more affordable goods for the public, which stimulated the economy. The impact was great and allowed for the populous to acquire items with ease. This ease of producing and acquiring goods allowed for the Industrial Revolution to justly earn its title by it influence of society. The mechanization of factories allowed for an expansion in employment but as machines became more skilled the necessity for certain jobs disappeared. This ideal of the progression of mechanization of machines is still applicable currently. This mechanization enacted both negative and positive impacts but in retrospect the impact was extensive and can attribute to the authenticity of the revolution. The steam engine allowed for doors to open in the realm of transportation and allowed for a global diffusion of industrialization. The ideology of the steam engine can be translated to modern society in modernized technology such as cars, which shows the expanse of which the Industrial Revolution encompassed. This notable impact only emphasizes the Industrial Revolution
