Infant acne is a common rash that may be seen in the first few months of life. It is also known as:
Acne neonatorum.
Baby acne.
Neonatal acne.
Infant acne usually shows up in the first 2–4 weeks of life and can last up to 6 months. It usually does not leave scars.
What are the causes?
The cause of this condition is not known.
What are the signs or symptoms?
Infant acne appears on the face, especially on the forehead, nose, and cheeks. It may also appear on the neck and on the upper part of the back. It may look like:
Raised red bumps.
Small bumps filled with pus.
Whiteheads or blackheads.

Your baby shows signs of early puberty, such as enlarged breasts, maturing testicles, or pubic hair.
How is this treated?
Treatment is usually not needed for this condition. In most cases, the rash gets better by itself. Your baby’s health care provider may prescribe a cream or lotion or, rarely, an oral medicine if your baby's acne is severe. Sometimes a skin infection that is due to bacteria or fungus can start in the areas where the acne is found. In this happens, your baby’s health care provider may prescribe antibiotic or topical antifungal medicines.

Medicines
Apply medicines only as directed by your baby’s health care provider. Do not use any other baby oils, lotions, or ointments unless you are instructed to do that. They may make the acne worse.
Give over-the-counter and prescription medicines only as told by your baby's health care provider.
If your baby was prescribed an antibiotic medicine, have him or her finish it all even if he or she starts to feel better.

Clean your baby’s skin gently with mild soap and clean water. Avoid vigorous scrubbing.
Keep the areas with acne clean and dry.
