Informative Essay: The Psychological Effects Of Racial Profiling

Racial profiling, the stereotypical cop vs anyone that isn’t white scenario, is happening in every back alley, ghetto, and high profile neighborhood across the nation. For those of you who don't know racial profiling is when someone is stopped for no reason other than the color of his or her skin. Unfortunately, in forty-six states racial profiling happens to have unclear laws or no data about the person is required to stop them, which is more than half the country even though it promotes stereotypes, isn't reliable, and causes psychological harm (Racial Profiling in America). As we all know every ethnicity has a stereotype, whether it be Canadians riding polar bears to school or every black guy smokes weed everyday, both of which we all know
On top of his or her stress disorder it can also mentally effect the people around them to know something so degrading is happening around them, this includes family, friends or even classmates. Unbelievably, racial profiling isn’t always between a police officer and a teenager or adult but sometimes it’s between a teacher and a child, even young children. Reason being is teachers are usually the first time that a child is confronted with an authority figure and learn about them, the way they are treated during those times could majorly effect the child’s self image and self esteem which can lead to social awkwardness, depression, self hate later on in life (The effects of racial profiling). Because no matter how you look at it racial profiling is stereotypically racist, not reliable in the court of law, and can effect you at any age while causing psychological trauma.
