Thyroid cancer is a painless lump in this area of the thyroid located in the lower front of the neck. It is a disease that you develop when abnormal cells begin to grow in your thyroid gland. There are four main types of this condition, thyroid cancer. The four main types are papillary, follicular, medullary and anaplastic thyroid cancer. The most common type of thyroid cancer is papillary thyroid cancer which begins in follicular cells and grows very slow. If diagnosed early, most patients can be cured. The second most common is follicular thyroid cancer and also begins in follicular cells, grows slowly but can be treated successfully. Medullary thyroid cancer is not at all common, about 2 of every 100 people with this cancer has this type. It begins in C cells and stays on high levels and it can spread to other parts of body.
