interacial marriage
In the Cheerios commercial, a little girl put cereal on her African American dad's heart because her white mother said that cheerios helps the heart. The kids from the reaction video never even notice the colored parent in the commercial until it was pointed out to them. The commercial caused a lot of racial tension between many adult disapproving of the commercial put out by the people at Cheerios. The maker of the commercial said they wanted to depict a "normal family". To the kids who sees interracially marriage everyday on TV and YouTube, this is normal. 15 years ago you would never see something like this on TV. 2013, when the commercial was made, is a totally different time. Segregation had been abolished many years ago in America. People are more adapted to the peaceful coexistence of different race and culture. Even though I think we will never live in a world without discrimination due to race, I do think there will be much less of it. Basically from what I can see, there are different view. Anti-racist people’s image of a perfect world is when every race is intertwined to become one super race. The Pro-Racist people believe that it is just wrong to mix races together. There are argument on both side that to support their view own view. Pro-racist people argue the fact that it is it is unfair for the child. A bi-racial child doesn’t not have an identity. They would argue that single race children already has a hard time blending in with each other. Not knowing which race they belong with would actually make it even tougher on the child.
Anti-racist people on the other hand would argue that people should have the right to marry anyone they like no matter the race. People should not be discriminated due to the skin color. The video with the kid’s reaction is definitely an anti-racist view. They wanted to show that a kid have perspective on racist then the grown-ups.

Leading into the beginning of the video the cultural diversity is obvious. People of all different color, race, and background. This technique displays the many differences they all have, yet under the umbrella we call our great nation we are all one in the same. The ad also shows us, no matter your color or background we all have the same rights under the constitution our founding fathers left behind. Vineet Mehr was even quoted in an interview saying “we're using facts and data to prove it. This is not fluffy marketing. These are facts.”…

The video was very insightful with information that pertained to race. Even though the title of the video included the word diversity I was not expecting it to be based solely on race. I did believe that the way they explained race is very important the conversation between the two women weren’t awkward when they spoke about race, which is known to be a delicate topic. I did like that both of the women…

The woman from East Germany assumed that the best way to get through to everyone was through talking and open discussion. But I think that most people have been told in their lives that racism and discrimination are wrong, our experiences shape our opinion more than someone else's words. There is no other way to show white people what it feels like to be discriminated against. That is why it is such a good idea to put the blue eyed people in the "minority." Most of those who probably experience discrimination on a daily basis get to see it from the other side of the fence as well. There are very few situations in the real world where they may feel like the minority and experience discrimination. This discrimination is also only temporary and not as powerful as the kind some people have been experiencing their entire lifetimes. Appealing to their emotions is a much stronger way of getting the message through and you can see the effectiveness through the testimonials of the college kids after words and at the class…

In Say Yes, A normal white couple are just talking and washing dishes. The story is about one topic- interracial marriage? Husband argues ‘No’ while his Wife Ann argues ‘Yes’. Husband makes rational points like statistics pointing such marriages do not work while wife makes the point that if two people love each other race does not matter. Soon the argument heats up and at a point Ann accidentally cuts her thumb. The husband without expecting everything rushes to get her first-aid. He started washing dishes and told wife to go relax. He hoped that she would not start the conversation, but she asked, “ so you wouldn’t have married me if I were black.” After assuming she were the same person if she is black, out of frustration he answered No.…

The children standing close together show a world of no discrimination towards one another, as there had been before. In the picture there are races of different nationalities including Asian, African American, Native American, Latin American, etc. The children have their hands across their chest showing a sign of dedication to what they know as America. This demonstration depicts a story of our American History as it should be today. Although there is still some prejudice in America, we have still overcome a lot of changes that will give hope to children to see a better…

There are constantly so many stereotypes being made about African Americans. People are ignorant and they are so quick to judge someone’s culture without actually knowing anything about it. I myself am married to an African American man and our children are also mixed but he does not have heart problems nor does anybody in his family. Most categorize people by color and culture but that does not mean that we are all the same. Though slavery was overruled in 1865 and segregation ended in 1964, there are still people out there who believe in it. When people saw this commercial of the interracial couple, the people who don’t necessarily like or believe in interracial couples also had some things to say about the video. Some of them said they would no longer eat cheerios because of knowing an interracial couple does or was even in the commercial. Of course these people are wrong and should be banned for saying things like this but, they do have freedom of speech and they’re entitled to their own opinion. Companies like cheerios need to be careful when they make commercials involving topics like this because the media and viewers will express their feelings towards it. When it comes to race, many people take offense to it because it’s a very sensitive topic. If it is not portrayed in a sensitive way, viewers will not be pleased and this could potentially put their business at…

Not only did these people despise one of their races, but they also didn’t even claim the race. This episode is a perfect example as to why I know that emphasis on a color-blind society will never be the answer to racism. Both racism and stereotypes, which is a form of racism, have a way of separating races from one another. Therefore, stereotypes are blocking the demolishment of racism. In my opinion, a “color-blind” society does not even exist, at least not in this day in age. Racism will continue to thrive as long as stereotypes are still alive. The society is keeping stereotypes alive by claiming and embracing them, therefore, people are keeping racism alive. The sad part is that our society doesn’t even realize…

Many famous individuals of color in our history have hoped to one day live in a nation without the feeling of a segregation between different ethnicities. Unfortunately, these hopes have still not come to fruition in our society today. The United States is still rocked by the idea that one pigment of color is superior to another. This discrimination is the cause of a lack in education in our generation and an aversion to difference that has been passed down from our ancestors. The movie Crash, accurately depicts these problems that we have seen with racism in our country for the past hundred years and more abundantly today. In this essay, I will be discussing how the movie crash shows how media hides the fact that racism is multicultural,…

There has always been a strong link between society and the media as both are influenced by each other. Racism within advertising has been around for thousands of years and still to this day exists. Below is an early 1950’s advertisement for Fairy Soap from the N.K. Fairbanks Company. Slavery was very relevant for at least 50% of the time that N.K. was in business which will have played a huge role as to how this advert portrayed different ethnicities at the period it was released.…

I learned many new things from this video. I learned that many people died in the black’s non-violent revolution for freedom and rights. I also learned that most African Americans were paid an average of only about $700. African Americans were denied education at all white schools, and were only allowed a less than average education at black schools. Under the Supreme Court ruling in Brown vs. Board of Education, a number of African American Honors students integrated Little Rock Central High School in 1957. Every day they had to endure abuse from a huge angry mob that protested integration and wanted segregation. I feel that I would not have been able to put up with all that abuse. Those nine students that integrated Central High had great determination and never gave up hope. I also learned that it was a very long and hard struggle for all blacks during the Civil Rights Movement. The KKK terrorized blacks and killed them. Many African Americans were killed before they won the rights that they deserve. I was very proud of all the African Americans that participated in things like the Montgomery bus boycott because it showed that they weren’t afraid of standing up for themselves. I felt joyful that they always had the courage to stay non-violent, because if they turned to violence, the situation would not have turned out the same way. Now I will do anything that I can to eliminate discrimination of anyone because it is a very serious and destructive…

Many interracial couples are faced with negative reactions from society, making it hard for them to have a regular relationship. They have to deal with disapproval from their own race, pessimistic reactions from family and friends, and not to mention the ignorance of society as a whole. Why is interracial dating so controversial? Is not racism a thing of the past, or is that what we would like to believe?…

The purpose of juxtaposing old footage with more contemporary footage is actually to emphasize the second big idea I have mentioned. The director wants the audiences to realize that we can still see the violence and discrimination in the current society. There were people holding posters like “Negros don’t you want to be white” in the past, and there are police brutality toward African Americans now. Juxtaposition allows the audiences to realize the similarity of the current time and the past. The United States is still prospering while the African Americans are suffering. I agree with the message that has been conveyed through the juxtaposition, but I have to admit that discrimination toward African Americans is much better now than the past. Also, I understand the fact that it will take a lot of time for any countries to achieve a hundred percent racial equality, especially for such a diverse country like the United States. It is always difficult to accept people who are different with us, and it’s a big progress already for African Americans to gain the freedom they have…

"Biracial children face a myriad of concerns on a daily basis. Research reveals what common sense suggests--that all these problems are rooted in racist, biased, and discriminatory social attitudes, attitudes which children encounter from their first moments of pre-school. The sense of injustice that they instinctively feel when they sense these biases will manifest out of discrimination towards one or both of their racial backgrounds, as well as towards the fact that they have more than one racial background. Examples of these concerns, and manifestation of racist attitudes, are concerns shared by parents of bi-racial children, who also suffer the emotional brunt of discrimination against their children. An understanding of the suffering of parents, as well as bi-racial children, can provide for us not only a comprehensive perspective on the challenges and concerns that bi-racial children and their parents experience on a daily basis, but a means of providing the proper environment thereof. "…

A person’s skin color should not matter when it comes to love. You cannot help who you fall in love with whether they are African American, Caucasian, Hispanic, Asian, or any other race. Some people don’t approve of interracial relationships but people are people and we are all equal, so I don’t understand why skin color matters. I believe people should not judge couples that are in an interracial relationship and just keep their opinions to themselves because interracial relationships are getting more and more common.…
