Internet Activism

Evgeny Morozov talks about the internet and the role it has in the way people participate in politics and how it affects them as active social activists, or at least that what I got from it. I do think that the internet does help us be more aware of what’s going on around us, politically wise, but I do not feel like it has a big enough impact on most people to want to do something to change the problems around them. I have seen some social movements grow thanks to the internet, though, like the Black Lives Matter movement and the general push towards feminism, so, maybe I’m wrong. I know I would never be part of something like that. I’d rather just use the internet like most other people in first world countries; for entertainment. I even think that, if internet wasn’t so big on social media and entertainment, I’d actually take a role in activism just because I’d have no better way to consume my time and I partially like arguing, which is kind of what
I spend most of my time online watching videos of people making fun of feminists and activists and it’s not because I’m not a feminist or racist but I just find it entertaining and honestly I see why people make fun of some of these movements. There are people in these groups that are too radical or just stupid and the general internet population generalized that group’s personality as the one of those bad individuals, if that makes any sense. For example, feminism is a good thing, but there are women that just claim females are better than men and complain about women not having such a strong presence in some job fields that women don’t usually go into, but it’s not that they can’t do what men can, but most of them just wouldn’t want to. These are referred to as feminazis, and no one likes them, but this is not what feminism is. Or maybe it is, I’m not sure. I just don’t want them yelling at me for not feeling the same way they
