Interpersonal Communication In Nursing

Currently I am a senior level 4 nursing student. With being a nursing student it requires many communication skills verbal and non-verbal. Various classes in the communication curriculum would be very beneficial to my major. For example, COMM 1018 interpersonal communication would be very helpful because with this class I would learn communication skills such as; looking for detailed feelings and face-to-face non-verbal and verbal cues. Having the knowledge that I have now if I would have taking communication classes earlier I may have had a better experience understanding the signs of pain that patients gave me without actually telling me. Other courses like COMM 2009 - evidentiary speaking would be another beneficial class to not
A fun class that I would love to take just for fun would have to be COMM 2060 - small group communication. Because I hold seats on several executive boards here at ULM this class would be beneficial to how I conduct meetings, events, and brining in new ideas for the organization. With this I love that we would be able to see thing in an out-of-the-box view point and everything would not be one sided and only pulled to the point of view of one person. I would definitely consider communications as a major because I feel classes as such as communications teach you also how to read people solely off how they are speaking to you. In a situation that a gun was to my head and I had this major I would know great skills in how to seem relatable to the person who wants to kill me and possibly sway his reasons for wanting to hurt me. Some advantages would be that I could talk my way out of the situation and seem compassionate to the invader and I would calm him down and get to the root of the problem. Disadvantages would be that I would not have had as much knowledge about communication and I would have
