Chris McCandless wasn’t someone I would personally call a hero. The only thing he did was venture out into the cold winds of Alaska and made his ideas come to “life”. He left his rich life behind to go out and try to live off the land. By reading this I, myself am convinced that he had no idea what he was getting himself into or what he was doing. He went out there and didn’t pack enough food, brought the wrong kind of equipment and never let anyone know where exactly he was going. When going into the wild we, ourselves naturally make sure we have everything we need. We make sure that we have enough food that is going to last the trip or at least know of a place to go if we happen to be short and need more. The last thing we’d want is to be stranded out in the middle of the cold for days or even weeks or month then dying of starvation. Well this is what had happened to Chris, if he had planned his trip properly he would have realized the food he may have brought wouldn’t be enough. The fact that its cold and winter there wouldn’t have been many or even any sorts of berries or other foods that would naturally grow in the outdoors. Out there finding food isn’t always easy and you never know when the next moose or caribou is to come by. But when you don’t pack the right equipment it doesn’t help your case either.
When you’re out in the wild you’re supposed to pack for the climate you are going to. For Chris when he had gone out to Alaska he hadn’t packed enough equipment that would help him out there. He had packed a gun but it wasn’t big enough that he would be able to kill any animals that he may need to so he could eat. When Jim had dropped him off he had given him his rubber work boots so he could keep his feet warm and dry. His last thing he hadn’t done was that he didn’t let other know it was he was exactly going.
When heading out it is always important to let others know where you’re going when heading out in the wild. Well
