The Task:
Prior to the introduction of this assignment, the class would have studied the Industrial Revolution and its impact of the world. A Powerpoint would have been used to introduce the topic and the vocabulary associated with the material. They would have been introduced to the many inventions and changes that occurred during the time period. Students will be making an advertisement for one of the inventions made during the Industrial Revolution. Some examples of inventions they may focus on include the steam engine, telegraph, sewing machine, telephone, cotton gin, and the spinning Jenny. The advertisement should be done on a small poster board or computer paper. The advertisement must display the invention and include the inventor. This assignment will allow the students to display their understanding of the important inventions that impacted the Industrial Revolution and brought many changes to the West. It will allow students to use what they learned to describe the invention and also allow them to research in order to deepen their understanding.
