A. Background of the Study
There are a lot of chemical preparations in the market that claim to effectively remove stains in our clothes, and often times these are costly and hazardous to our health. A good clothing stain remover should easily eliminate both stains and odors on the clothes. There is a need to come up with other eco-friendly stain remover that works well at the same time is not harmful to our environment.
B. Statement of the Problem
Stain removal as defined in Wikipedia is a process of removing a mark or spot left by one substance on a specific surface like fabric. They are used in conjunction with the regular laundry soap or detergent in aiding the process of complete stain removal. The most common type of stain removers in the market are vinegar, baking soda, and hydrogen peroxide. However there are certain herbs or plants that may also help in the removal of clothing stains. One of which is the Cymbopogon or simply known as lemongrass.
This study aims to answer the following questions: * Can Cymbopogon/ lemongrass be an effective stain remover? * Can the lemongrass eliminate the bad odor coming from the stain?
C. Significance of the Study
In this study, people would benefit from the use of lemongrass as an effective stain and odor remover. At the same time it would be affordable, ecological, economical, and natural.
D. Formulation of the Hypothesis
If Cymbopogon / lemongrass is applied on a clothing mark then it can remove both the stain and odor on the material.
E. Scope and Delimitation of the Study
Lemongrass is very common here in Negros Oriental. That is why our investigation aims to create a cheaper and environment-friendly stain remover made of lemongrass to be used on food and mud stains on cotton fabric. The delimitation of this investigation is that there isn’t much research available on lemongrass and some resources may not be accurate.
