Is Beowulf A Charismatic Leader?
This starts with fifthteen Geatish warriors and Beowulf as the leader, was Beowulf always alone? How can Beowulf inflict in the leaders we have to this day on? According to the article, Beowulf and the Teaching of Leadership,by Dr. Tom Loughman and Dr. John Finley, Beowulf is seen as a charismatic leader model. Loughman and Finley help us readers understand the real situation about leadership in the epic poem, beowulf, and in our lives. Also,it models how the main character exemplifies leadership. There is enough information to discuss how Beowulf is a charismatic leader. Beowulf is really brave and is a really strong man also fearless who others follow and fear him because of his strength. As for the passage i think Beowulf is seen as

Fighting Grendel and winning opened his people eyes and gave them the chance of a fight and follow this character but did they really do? I feel like people were less scared and they found someone who will bring them glory. Beowulf’s comrades were “loyal” to Beowulf, but every time they had a strong fight with a mystic creatures or something that no man could rival it was accomplished by Beowulf alone and his people didn't build any bravery because he was the only one who did everything. Beowulf when he was young he had the opportunity to have fame which he had, victory and even a kingdom and people who supposedly follow him. Everything changes when Beowulf as an old man, gets injured by a dragon that seems as the strongest opponent so far. Sadly in the end almost of his comrades left Beowulf there to die, they lost confidence because the thought that Beowulf was the only one that could do it, They didn't want to die, SO THEY LEFT! If beowulf had taught his followers or another person like a son or small kid then the situation would have been different because they would had a leader to follow. Now they are suffering the consequences because they lack power of leadership and maybe fighting spirit. They decided to run hoping to save their own lives.
This pretty much happened to Beowulf because he was mostly arrogant that he was the best. Of course that not all of Beowulf were cowards or disloyal but except for one person and his name was Wiglaf Beowulf’s nephew. Finley and Loughman state that ‘While all the other thanes run to the woods” he stood up and were the true loyal warrior Beowulf had. To me this is my favorite character so far because loyalty is something that ties relationships and friendships, is in the middle of everything. He was the advantage Beowulf had because this character build loyalty and seems that wanted to be strong like Beowulf because he was the one who delivered the last blow to the dragon. In a sense Beowulf was loved by some people. His disadvantage was that because of his characteristic of fighting alone and builded up a dependance upon him and that was his grave.
