Island Descriptive Writing
Green grass stretches for miles, broken up around the edges with white fluffy sand that leads to the deep blue ocean. This island located in the middle of the world holds only one small, little house. The air was hot, the only relief was a light cool breeze that made the grass tickle her thigh as she observed the view in front of her. The meadow overlooked the vast wide body of water that she loved dearly. Interrupting her meditative state was the screeching of her four-year-old son. On the beach, a few feet away was her twin boys playing in the sand. One of them in tears and the other still had one foot on the pile of sand that was once a sand castle. "Flint, apologize to your brother." Her demand was met with only the stubbornness of a …show more content…

He climbed inside the canoe and pushed off into the vast unknown. A calmness crept through Sapling that he had never known. The distance created by the water made it seem like the brothers were on separate planets. The first day on the water Sapling was amazed by all the open space. The world was so much bigger than the island he grew up on. Sapling pulled his canoe onto the bank of an island that was covered so thickly with tall green trees that it seemed impossible to get anywhere. Upon this island, Sapling got to work finding different plants and resources that made reactions. He created a few different cures and created things of such beauty. He made the terrain easy to navigate and kept things mostly level. The hills never getting too high. Years passed and Sapling spent his time traveling to different islands and spreading his cures and creating new ones. As the years went on a feeling grew in his stomach, he was uneasy about something but he ignored it.
Back home Flint stewed on the little island. He set fire to everything on the island except for the house he lived in. He was angry. Angry at his brother for leaving, angry at his mother for leaving, angry at the people in the sky city for not wanting the three of them to live there together. On a sleepless night, Flint started tearing off boards of the house he was living in. Ruining the last thing on the island that stood. He set off after his

She struggles against the ripping force of the ocean current. Her arms are quickly tiring from swimming against it. She relaxes, letting her muscles fall limp. We begin our story in the small, beachy forest town of Nopicopolople (pronounced Nop-ee-cop-el-lop-el). Every day, the sun rose brightly over town, and waves crashed upon the beach, creating ripples in the sand. The cool breeze swept over the grass, carrying the sweet scent of dandelions and lavender with them. Every night, the moon shone brightly, letting the sun rest, ending the day with an alluring sunset.…

While I was strolling on the beachfront, I happened upon a bottle under the slowly rolling waves. I picked it up, unscrewed the cork cap, took out the parchment coiled inside, and rolled it out on the fine sand to read the message. It was written in Spanish, but my years of education in the Spanish language had allowed me to effectively decipher it.…

    Barrier Islands Essay

Barrier Islands, which are also known as barrier spits, are elongate, narrow islands of sand or sediment that lied parallel to the coastline and are separated from the mainland by a shallow sound, bay or Lagoon. Most barrier islands are along trailing edge and marginal sea coast where continental shelves are wide and gently sloping. The majority of the barrier islands in North America are along the Atlantic and Gulf Coast. The formation of the barrier islands is not fully understood. There have been many theories about their formation, but the current one states that barrier islands were formed about 18,000 years ago at the end of the last Ice Age. As the glaciers melted, the sea level started to rise and flooded areas behind the beach ridges at that time. The rising waters carried sediments from those beach ridges and deposited them along shallow areas just off the new coast lines. Waves and currents continued to bring in sediments that build up, forming the barrier islands. They range in length from three to a hundred kilometers in length and less than one to three kilometers in width. Their two major functions are: To protect the coastlines from severe storm damage and to harbor several habitats that are refuges for wildlife. There are four major zones in the barrier-islands: beach, dunes, overwash, and salt marsh. Each of these zones have their own function and type of natural life. It is natural for these islands to grow and erode and get washed away. They aren’t permanent; they are just accumulations of sand that form off the cost. It should not be allowed to build up in the barrier-islands because its dangerous for the people, eliminates important ecosystems and limits the island’s usefulness in protecting the mainland coast.…

Arina sat on her usual tree stump, dipping her bare feet into the water and watching the ripples of movement. She often came here when she was bored. Nothing ever felt better than feeling the cold water around her bruised feet. She sighed as she placed her basket filled to the rim with fresh flowers onto the fresh grass and looked up at the sky through the trees surrounding the small pond. For as long as she remembered she had lived in this little cottage, her caregiver stopping by then and again to make sure she was all right and well. Sometimes she would bring fresh food, not knowing she had taught herself to hunt for her own food. She never turned down the gift basket filled with fruit and bread, all things she couldn't find herself.…

Cloning is a naturally occurring phenomenon, as well as a human induced process. A clone is a living organism deriving from another, with identical set of genes. A naturally occurring anthropological example of a clone would be twins, a set of individuals with identical DNA. A laboratory-induced clone would be stem cell production and animal cloning. In the movie The Island by Michael Bay, the concept of cloning is used as a life insurance policy to elongate the life of a natural born individual. This medical use of cloning has been under the experimental stage for quite sometime now and under ethical question. There are three different ways of cloning, recombinant DNA technology or DNA cloning, reproductive cloning, and therapeutic cloning.…

As I walk down the narrow, brown, rickety bridge that leads to the ocean my heart begins to race in anticipation of reaching the fascinating sight. I’m suddenly surrounded by sand that is white and pure as snow. I walk at a turtle’s speed absorbing this overwhelming beauty that encircles me. The sky is the brightest blue I’ve ever seen, so bright that it almost seems as if it is from an animated movie and not real life itself. Fluffy clumps of clouds that were covering the sky before slowly fade away into thin air and the crystal clear waves sparkle like diamonds. The water is never-ending. I see heaps of seagulls flying around the sky, white and grey and full of spirit. As a gust of wind runs through my long, dark, brown hair I look to the right to see two elegant dolphins leap from the deep blue sea and dive back in as if saying hello to the gorgeous, heavenly day.…
