Jane Goodall Has Hope-Even During Trying Times Summary
Paper View Jane Goodall is well known for her studies and discoveries on Chimpanzees. While that is the thing she is most known for, it isn't the only thing that she has a strong suit for. In the article "Why Jane Goodall Has Hope - Even During Trying Times", it tells how Jane Goodall was a firm advocate for hope and how everyone should have some. Because of this, I believe that Jane Goodall is a hero for our time because she is supporting us to reach for hope and because she is a great example of how we should live our lives.

As many people say that hope is something that we should all have in ourselves, Jane Goodall is one of those people. In her book of hope, she wrote, it gives real life scenarios that show people being hopeful for small things that end up bringing a complete greater meaning to the simple small thing. For example, one of the examples that Jane Goodall used was after World War II, the city Nagasaki, one of the cities hit by the two atomic bombs, was left in rubble. "Scientists predicted that nothing would grow for decades. But, amazingly, two 500-year-old camphor trees survived. Only the lower halves of their trunks remained, and from those most of the branches had been torn off. Not a single leaf remained on the mutilated trees. "(The Book of Hope 7). But, soon later the truth began to sprout and today it is a full and normal tree with great leaves.

I searched the Esko High School on-line Card Catalog for hope as a subject and only one book came up. The fiction book is called Hobart, and the interest level is for children grades three through six. I then searched a related word (faith) as a subject entry, and it showed fifty-five results. I think more results came up for faith then for hope because faith is more commonly associated with religion than hope is. I then looked up hope as a keyword and over two-hundred results popped up; there were mostly fiction books for children grades three to six. One book that I clicked on is called Seeds of Hope: The Gold Rush Diary of Susanna Fairchild; it's "a diary account of fourteen-year-old Susanna Fairchild's life in 1849." Her mother has just…

Hope allows us to commit to the issues at hand. “ I would like to write a letter to the government to see if they will give me some money for the library”. Additionally, in “‘Hope’ is the Thing with Feathers,” Emily Dickinson reveals how hope is everlasting, no matter the conditions. Both Hillenbrand and Dickinson communicate that hope will oftentimes feel lost, especially at a time of crisis, but it never truly is. Finally, George Frederick Watt, in his 1886 art piece, “Hope,” exhibits that hope may not necessarily mean expectancy, but rather holding on and appreciating the speck of virtue that remains. An analytical examination…

The meaning of hope or even false hope, is a good thing to us humans to feel, it helps us get through rough times, and pushes us move forward. Hope can be explained in hundreds different ways, some may say it’s a good thing to have in your soul, but others might say it’s not good, it could lead you to something bad. Emily Dickinson the author of both poems “Hope is a thing with feathers” mentions hope being a good thing to have in your soul, but “Hope is a subtle glutton” talks about hope being a glutton, meaning greedy eater. Dickinson’s poems somehow connects with Cormac McCarthy the author of the novel “The Road” that’s about a father and his son who have little hope that they would live another day. Hope can be explained a good or bad thing, but if you just a small amount of hope, you pushes yourself in a good direction, and you’ll make it through rough times.…

Hope is a recurring topic found all throughout history. It is found in the ancient tale of Pandora and her box, where hope is the only good thing that comes out of the box, as well as the “I Have a Dream” speech by Martin Luther King Jr, telling of his hope for a nondiscriminatory world. Hope also is the topic of Emily Dickinson’s poem titled “Hope is the Thing with Feathers,” which goes as follows: 'Hope' is the thing with feathers— That perches in the soul— And sings the tune without the words— And never stops—at all— And sweetest—in the Gale—is heard— And sore must be the storm— That could abash the little Bird That kept so many warm— I've heard it in the chillest land—…
