Step 1 - The Foundation: The 411
The Prompt: The research paper component of the Culminating Project will demonstrate mastery of written language. Students will research a topic related to their community experience and/or career interest. The student will integrate personal experience and research and in a persuasive paper where they will successfully argue a position related to their topic.

There are many skills that are necessary to do a research paper. The most important is staying organized. Time management is essential. You need to meet deadlines as they are given so you can produce a quality paper. Below are the steps that you will need to complete in order to successfully complete this essay:

Step 1: The Foundation: Choose a topic. Immerse yourself in the debate. Develop an argument. Write a draft using 5 rhetorical moves. Deliver a speech.
Key Dates:
-Draft 1: Soapbox Speeches: Mon. 12/9 – Tues. 12/17
Step 2: The Architecture: Bolster your argument with 10 sources (1 must be your Job Shadow!). Write an annotated bibliography. Conduct an interview and do a job shadow. Compose a draft synthesizing 6 sources (1 must be your Job Shadow!), incorporating the Citation Sandwich, including a Works Cited page, and following proper MLA Format (Header, Heading, Margins).

-Annotated Bibliography Due: Fri. 12/20
-Job Shadow:
• Prior Approval Form/Set-Up Job Shadow*: Fri. 12/20 (Last day I’ll accept the Prior Approval Form is Fri. 1/10).
• Due: Tues. 1/21* (can be turned any time before).
*=Prior Approval Form must be turned in/approved before you do your job shadow.
-Draft 2: Full Draft with Sources and Works Cited Page: Mon. 1/13
