Celebrity Meltdowns: Justin Bieber

It is hard to quantify Justin Bieber’s series of odd and uncouth actions. Did he have a breakdown or was he just acting like an entitled jerk? The truth appears to lie somewhere in the middle. Here is a timeline of some of his most infamous incidents.

2010: Bieber is accused of assaulting a 12-year-old girl after an incident at a laser tag arena. He is cleared of charges.

2011:
● Bieber cuts off a DPS officer while driving and is pulled over.
● He is accused of locking a producer in a closet and punching a cake while filming a guest appearance on CSI.

2012:
● Bieber vomits all over the stage during a performance in Arizona. He blames the incident on drinking milk before the show.

2013:
● Bieber

● He is charged with vandalism after spray painting a building.
● He is arrested on drug charges after marijuana is found on his tour bus.

2014:
● Bieber is charged and convicted of driving under the influence.
● He is detained by customs for allegedly possessing drugs.
● He faces numerous charges, ranging from egging a neighbor’s house to allegedly robbing a woman of her cell phone.

2015:
● Bieber is found guilty of assault and careless driving after a collision with another vehicle.

2016:
● Bieber is accused of punching a fan at a show in Barcelona.

2017:
● Bieber is accused of hitting a paparazzo with his truck after leaving an event in Beverly Hills. Video shows Bieber rendering aid to the man and no charges are filed.

Justin Bieber is yet another example of a child star who struggled to deal with fame as an adult. Though his behavior has often been reprehensible, it can better be understood as the actions of a young man with a great deal of money who became famous at an age when many people act irresponsibly. It seems that this fame and money led to an extreme version of the problems that many young men face without the consequences that others have to contend

Unfortunately, human beings outside the high school microcosm I am much harder on. Maybe Justin Bieber (sp?) will evolve into Timberlake 2.0. Somehow I am skeptical, and many of you would consider even that faint praise. Anyhow, I work on it. I am also allergic to certainty. The older I get, the less sure I am of anything I've ever truly believed, with the exception of a few outliers, like Howlin' Wolf, A Confederacy of Dunces, The Wild Bunch, or peanut butter. If that worries you consider these lines of the poetic saint Emily Dickinson: "In insecurity to lie/Is joy's ensuring quality." She is not far wrong. Finally, music, books, and film (occasionally some of the other arts...and even sciences) are like oxygen to me. If I didn't have to earn…
