Juveniles have been sent to jail based on a crime they did for most of their life without parole. The author says, “1,300 cases nationally of as an adult to life, sometimes called JLWOP (Juvenile Life Without Parole)”(Jenkins,3). This defines how teens are still being sent to jail to live without their age being considered. This highlights that many juveniles are sent to jail without a chance to redeem their actions. The author points out, “The nationwide campaign to end JLWOP has spent millions of dollars advocating for these convicted murderers to be set free.”(Jenkins,9). of juveniles being unfairly sent to jail to spend their entire life. This is noteworthy because it will cause many to change their thoughts on juveniles being sent to jail. Many juveniles have committed crimes and have been sent to mostly life imprisonment because they were influenced by someone or something.
Juveniles have been sent to live in prison because of rash behavior that they regret.
The author quotes, “On March 9, Lionel Tate- who was twelve when he savagely beat to death a six-year-old girl-- will likely learn if he must spend life in prison after his lawyer unsuccessfully tried to put pro wrestling on trial”(Lundstrom,11) This defines juveniles not knowing what actual consequences and not having a view of the world. This reinforces the idea that juveniles should be tried as children. The author points out, “A fifteen-year old-old claimed he was mimicking a TV program about little girls who rob a bank given a 26-years-to-life prison term. Tried as an adult, Thomas A. Preciado was fourteen when he stabbed to death a mini-mart clerk.”(Lundstrom, 12) This gives another example of how juveniles can be easily influenced and shouldn’t be tried as a mature adult. This reinforces the idea that juveniles should be trialed as children. Many juveniles cause trouble because they can't escape their
environments.
In the article, “Juveniles Don’t Deserve Life Sentences” the author Garingermarch says, “They were denied access to education and rehabilitation programs and left without help or hope”(Garingermarch, 3). This reinforces the idea of how juveniles are left to die as they grow old in prison doing nothing in life. This highlights that offenders have to spend all their life in jail after one mistake. The author claims that “Parental abuse and negative home lives can leave children with little hope and limited choices”(Garingermarch, 7). This clarifies why the environment of a juvenile is important. This highlights the fact juveniles can't escape environments because of their young age. Many juveniles are sent to prison without a second chance and stay there denied to any hope.
Juveniles are tried as adults even though they are young. Many juveniles don’t understand what happens when you do a bad crime because they are easily influenced. Juveniles are sent to jail at young ages and almost spend all their lives there. The environment of where they live is a big factor to juveniles doing crimes. Many programs are made to help end life without parole. Juveniles being tried as adults isn’t fair because they are still young and dumb.
