In Scott Fujita article “Would I Let My Son Play Football” on page 3 it states “produced so many friendships, paid for part of my education and helped me become comfortable financially”. After reading Scott Fujita’s “Would I Let My Son Play Football,” I would allow my son to play football. Fujita says, “ Here I am questioning whether children should be playing at all, and I’m basically selling the game to children watching at home.”(Fujita, 4) Here, Fujita is contradicting himself, and it shows that even a former professional football player can’t hate the game, despite the harm that comes with it. Fujita also states “.... most parents with young children who played football were most interested in my workout regimen and what supplements I was taking (Fujita, 2).” According to Fujita, football has given him the chance to be stronger, in a physical manner. After seeing how fit football players are able to be, it attracts me…

Although, some would still hold the argument about football teaching discipline and keeping teens active. Football will never be the only thing to teach discipline and keep teens active, but some will still take the risk. Additionally, football will not work out well for everyone and could still cause severe injuries. Yet another reason why I still stand on the side of not allowing my son to play football. Personally, I am a strong supporter of children playing any sport that is offered. With that being said, young lives are too precious to many people for us to lack in safety precautions, especially in a violent contact sport such as football. According to youthsportssafetyalliance.org, there are nearly 3 times as many catastrophic injuries per year in high school football as there are in collegiate level football. This number infers that high school football tends to be more dangerous, and for several reasons.…

At every level of football, there are inherent dangers that come with playing the game. These dangers are understood and assumed by all participants, and though the game is more safe than it has ever been, there are still risks that are ever present during a football game. When I played football I understood those risks, and the danger of the game is one of the reasons why I waited until 8th grade to start playing. While I was able to avoid any serious injuries over my five year career, the thought of possible injury caused many of my friends to decide that playing football was not worth the risks. Now while high school football in Connecticut is much different than the level of football that Chris Boreland was playing at, his thinking was…

Sports consumes so much time that there may not be time for much else, once school is finished they must usually attend practice. After coming home from school there is homework and by the time the day is over it is time for bed. Most of the time sports can include weekend games or meets, so the teen may not have any time for themselves or even have time to think about getting in trouble.…

Playing the sport of football teaches athletes team work. Athletes learn how to get along with their teammates. For example, let's say you play offensive line, you have to be able to talk to your teammates so you know who to block. Teamwork makes kids feel better about themselves, they have others to help them out. Also, teamwork can help you in the classroom, if you have a friends in the class that is on your football team you won't be scared to ask for help. If your coach puts you in at a position on the team you can work with the other players that are in to figure out what routes to run, where to go, who to block. I believe that football you with your teamwork which improves social skills.…

Kathy Pollitt in “Why Boys Don’t Play with Dolls” states that, “women often complain about their sons’ passion for sports: the ruined weekends, obnoxious coaches, and macho values” (Pollitt 556). Boys paradoxically have a far greater chance of playing sports and excelling at those due to more opportunities and the focusing on those benefits at very early ages. Why you may ask? Because sports media portrays the sports, that men participate in, to be far more interesting to watch and easier to write about in articles that are published throughout the nation. Boys read about these headlines at early ages and begin to wonder if they can produce a career in the highly popular sports world that we, as Americans, live in to this day. For example, 21.5 million boys played on a sports team between the ages of 6 and 17, compared to only 9.5 million girls playing on an organized sports team…

In our current society, there is a certain belief against children playing football. The belief is that there is no reason why children should be playing this sport, specifically with the research about how it can lead to different types of injuries. Even though this is a valid view, this is a view that I am against for a few different reasons. One of these reasons is because children can still learn lessons from playing sports like football that cannot be taught anywhere else. I am also against this belief because there is better equipment being created to make these sports safer. Lastly, I am against this belief because of how different leagues are finding ways to make these sports safer in ways that do not dramatically change the game.…

Too many teenagers these days are running around unsupervised and getting into trouble after school. They may be bored or under stimulated, and instead of choosing something productive to do, they roam the streets with their buddies looking for something to keep them busy. Unfortunately, that "something to do" can and usually does get them in a lot of trouble. From drugs to violence to having sex, our teenagers are at risk. Young people with a lot of free time are potentially more open to get into trouble than those who are involved in sports. That doesn't mean that every child who isn't in sports is going to cause trouble but it does open up more opportunities for them to do so. After school sports provides an outlet for their energy. Keeping children on the move and parental involvement in their lives is very important.…
