Key Club Observation Report
At Lincolnton High School there is a limited amount of club activity going on, however, I reach out to all of the clubs to explore the opportunities they could provide. I have dedicated the most of my time and efforts to the school’s Key Club, the high school branch of the local Kiwanis Club. What originally drew me to the Key Club was its dedication to serving the people of the Lincolnton High School community. Quickly, I was enveloped in the various club projects and was then elected my junior year as vice president and then my senior year as president. The creativity I was allowed to pour into the club resulted in many positive influences in the community and opened new doors to future charitable opportunities. As a smaller club, out monetary funds are reasonably limited, however, during our annual penny wars, due to creative campaigning, the Key Club was able to raise nine hundred dollars. The club had never realised that much money before, and we were honored to share this money with the local women’s shelter, Amy’s House. I believe this is …show more content…

The Key Club runs an annual service where people can park their cars at the high school, ride a van up to the town’s court square to enjoy the festival, and return to the parking lot safely. This service is a pillar in the Apple Festival, as many people rely on this service to attend the festival. This past year, I spoke with a woman taking her elderly mother to the festival. She recalled all the years her mother was unable to attend as she felt that she couldn't walk around the festivities and then back to her car without being exhausted. She told me that, “without this shuttle, my mother would spend her last few Apple Festivals at home and miss out on something that has always made her happy.” The amount of joy and pride I felt at this admission truly made all the planning and pulling everything together worth all the stress that comes along with

Participation in a club is seen as a part of a well-rounded person, and teenagers are told when they are applying for college that they will look more appealing if they have participated in many community changing clubs. As people get older they are asked to participate in a clubs ranging from parent-student clubs or book clubs. A club represents a way to enjoy oneself and work outside of one’s profession; it is known as an activity of high esteem. People who participate in clubs are often seen as people who have good time management and a big heart. Many clubs promote volunteer work, team activities, leadership, and help foster morality as well as good choices that will benefit a whole community. One of the specific reasons that clubs are seen as a positive part of our culture is because all school clubs consist of administration approved activities, and because of this it doesn’t allow for a negative club to be created. Clubs can only exist if apart of one of the following categories: fundraising, community service, career interest and interpersonal dynamic. Because of this the word “club” will never be associated with anything other than a group of people who want to divulge themselves into a hobby or service project. Clubs originated in the Victorian times in Britain, functioning as a place for men to attend lectures and participate in recreational activities. Over time they developed as a part of women’s culture (book club, sewing club, cooking club). This was especially true throughout times when women were supposed to be only the care takers of the house and children, as well as social with other mothers. Since then they have developed a connotation that pushes children and adults to be progressive, have a hobby outside of work, and enjoy themselves while (most of the time) helping…

Since I was a kid I’ve noticed my home town of Pomona, CA had areas that were roughed up. Whenever I passed through main streets like Holt Avenue I could see sidewalks filled with homeless people & damaged property. Seeing my city in bad shape sparked something in me & I knew I wanted help better the city & give back to it but wasn’t really sure how to contribute up until high school. Sophomore year in high school I joined Movimiento Estudiantil Chicano de Aztlán, MEChA, I was introduced into this club by a friend that was actively involved in it. MEChA’s main focus in the community was to help the Spanish speaking people within the community that were in need of help in school. Another club that I joined that year was Key Club International.…

This year I volunteered for several nonprofit organizations, however I dedicated most of my time to the Atlanta Community Food Bank. Before volunteering for this organization I was not quite sure how I would be able to make a significant difference in my community. However, when I volunteered for this organization, I was able to tremendously help people in Atlanta. Likewise, this experience opened my eyes to the increasing…

The motto of the National Beta Club says, “Let us lead by serving others.” Helping others in my community has always played an important role in my life. On April 27th, 2011, various tornadoes swept throughout the county I live in, destroying a large part of my community. Many of my friends and family were effected by the devastating tornadoes, including my uncle and aunt with their three children. I helped to rebuild my community by participating in a community wide clean-up effort. I have made many lasting improvements for my community. One of these improvements included instilling hope in members throughout my community; letting them know that when they need help, our community will always be there for them. This devastating experience has not only helped me make lasting improvements for my community, but has also influenced my development by helping me learn the importance of helping others and the fragility of life.…
