think to myself, “What does this ad actually mean?” The first thing that caught the attention of my eyes was the individual Manny Pacquiao, kneeling on the floor of the ring.
The top of this ad consist of a black background that seems as if he is in a room with a beam of light coming from the top. As my eyes moved toward the middle of the ad, I noticed the beam of light hitting Manny Pacquiao in the corner of the ring holding onto the ropes. The ropes are red, white and blue with a red turnbuckle. Pacquiao seems to be praying or meditating about a fight. He is wearing red and white Nike shoes and white trunks with a golden eagle design and “Pacman” written on the sash of his trunks. The bottom of the ad reveals his initials what appears to be a sun on the M, the Nike logo, and a quote that says “Give us this day,” and the date of the day Pacquiao defeated Oscar de la …show more content…
Hoya. You can see Pacquiao’s body language as if he is praying.
The way his arms and the turnbuckle are positioned, it looks similar to Jesus Christ on a crucifix even more when you notice the beam of light coming down from the sky. This would imply that Pacquiao is praying to Jesus. The quote “Give us this day” located on the bottom of the ad is also an excerpt from the Lord’s Prayer, which provides proof that Pacquiao is praying. In this ad, it seems like Pacquiao is implying he is saying give me this day because he knew the odd were against him and he was going to be fight against an undefeatable boxer. Doubts occupied Pacquiao’s mind which is why he went to the Lord for help and guidance for this fight. The last item on the ad is the date 12.06.08 which symbolizes the day of the fight against Oscar de la Hoya meaning that is the day that Pacquiao wants “given.” The main advertisement of the ad is Nike because not only was the Nike logo written on the bottom of the ad but Pacquiao is wearing red and white Nike shoes. The red in the shoes shows that Pacquiao is fast with great agility, and that is similar to what an eagle symbolizes and a reason Pacquiao having an eagle on his
trunks. Manny Pacquiao’s ad is testimonial because not only is Pacquiao a great, well-known boxer but he also is a prodigy. With Pacquiao advertising Nike with an upcoming fight was well thought out because it reaches out to people saying Pacquiao uses Nike which gives the viewer a reason to but Nike products. The sun on the M in MP represents the Philippines, his home country, because the Philippine’s flag has a similar sun on it. The half sun also represents his uprising in the game of boxing and he is proud of where he comes from. The red, white and blue turnbuckles around the ring show patriotism in the sport of boxing meaning and showing a disadvantage because Pacquiao is not fighting in his home country. This ad show hidden fear because Pacquiao knew he should not underestimate de la Hoya so he brings the heat and wears the shoes by Nike. The advertisement portrays the idea that when wearing Nike gear, anything is unconquerable and one will always be a winner.
