Explain the main theoretical ideas behind one (1) of the following topics and comment on its applicability in relation to a current newspaper article.
* Globalisation is leading many command economies to converge and adopt a common market format. Is this the experience of Vietnam? * Frederick Taylor aimed for maximum efficiency in all activities. Is maximum efficiency a priority in Vietnamese businesses? * Gender and work are less related for the current generation than for generations past. Is this true in Vietnam’s experience? * Describe John Maynard Keynes’s solution to reduce unemployment. Under such circumstances would this be a suitable strategy for Vietnam?
Approximately 1500 words (+/- 10%). Due in the second class of Week 5. Essays must be submitted to Turn It In prior to hard copy submission in class. Please only submit your own work, not the cover page, statement of authorship, marking guide, or newspaper article.
The best essays will recognise the important theories/ideas that relate to the topic and will then demonstrate their relevance in relation to a current newspaper article in a clear and easy to understand way.
You should only use one (1) newspaper article. Newspaper articles must relate to Vietnam, must be in English, must be published after 1 April 2013, must be at least 250 words but no more than 800 words, and must be from a reputable source. Articles can be scanned from a hard copy newspaper or taken from an online source. We suggest using the website: http://www.abyznewslinks.com/vietn.htm
In writing the essay you should demonstrate critical thinking skills and must reference your work according to the Harvard Referencing style. An Argument Map is a requirement and workshops for these will be scheduled during Week 3.
